A parliament member in the self-proclaimed People's Republic of Donetsk says the parliament is planning to form a National Bank in order to facilitate tax payments.

"The biggest challenge at the moment is to form a National Bank, because without a National Bank, it is very hard to redirect taxes and payments," says Alexander Yevenievich, the minister of transport in the People's Republic of Donetsk.

"I think the winner will be the side that wins the economic war... the most effective way to win is to stop sending money to Kiev," says Yevenievich, adding that "If Kiev stops receiving money from us, it will fall apart."

The two mainly Russian-speaking regions of Donetsk and Lugansk in Ukraine have been the scene of deadly clashes between pro-Russia protesters and the Ukrainian army since mid-April. The violence intensified after the two regions declared independence from Ukraine on May 12 following local referendums, in which the residents voted overwhelmingly in favor of independence from Ukraine.

After the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1990, the US became the world's superpower. The US, then tried to contain its future rivals, that is Russia and China. With this aim, the US proposed the project of "the greater middle-east". The US occupation of Afghanistan, Iraq and its presence in the middle-east was not for fighting terrorism or establishing democracy but for controlling the the region as the main source of energy. This way, the US wanted to control the world and its rivals in particular. In recent decades, Russia and China have become more and more powerful in the international arena politically, economically and militarily. Now they veto the US just to show that the country is no longer the superpower. And the US knows well that with China and Russia, it will not be able to execute its plan to control the world as easily as it could three decades ago.

Virunga, in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, is Africa's oldest national park, and home to half the continent's endangered mountain gorillas.

It is one of the world's great heritage sites with three thousand square miles of precious flora and fauna.

Since 2010, the British firm SOCO International has been exploring the region for oil, with the permission of the Congolese government.

Activists have campaigned against SOCO, saying the company is putting both the wildlife and livelihoods of the regional people at risk.

The Human Rights Watch has accused the government of DR Congo and the British oil company SOCO International of threatening those who want to protect the Virunga Park, and being behind the shooting of a park ranger.

In April Emmanuel de Merode, Virunga's chief park ranger was shot in an ambush. Under pressure, SOCO, which denied any involvement in the attack, has agreed not to pursue further oil exploration.

Israeli extremist tries to remove Palestinian flag, gets caught on barbed wire

A settler became tangled in barbed wire after he climbed on to the roof of a Palestinian apartment building in Hebron to remove two Palestinian flags, as seen in a video published on YouTube by B’Tselem.

The incident last Saturday began when a bearded settler, wearing Shabbat clothing – black pants, a white shirt and a large white skullcap – set up a wooden ladder and climbed up it.

He tried to scale a wire fence around the roof of a Palestinian home next to Beit Hadassah, a Jewish apartment complex, in an area of the city under Israeli military control.

Shadi Sidr, one of the Palestinian home owners and a volunteer for the Israeli NGO B’Tselem, filmed the incident. The video opens as the settler, breathless from the climb, gets caught on barbed wire woven into the fence.
