The documentary THE BLACK PANTHERS: VANGUARD OF THE REVOLUTION weaves the voices of many diverse individuals who dealt with the group - including police, FBI informants, journalists, white supporters, and detractors – as well as followers who remained loyal to the party and others who left. The doc’s director Stanley Nelson and former Black Panther leader Kathleen Neal Cleaver sit down with Ondi Timoner to discuss the film during this special Sundance episode of BYOD.

'Black Russians – The Red Experience' is the untold story of black American professionals who left their segregated homeland for Stalinist Russia in the 1930s. Escaping racism in America, they came to the newly built country, Soviet Union, seeing it as the ‘Promised Land.’ Some came for political reasons, others for economic benefit, equality of status or artistic freedom. Some remained in the USSR, while others married Russian citizens, And some eventually returned to the US. But all of them had one thing in common -- their search for a dream.

Did they find what they were looking for? Their descendants who live in Russia and America today will share a story of their ancestors as well as their own.

Today Russia is the country where racism is increasing and America still struggles with the same issue. The world has been stirred up with many other problems. But nothing can stop people worldwide to take to the streets and fight for their beliefs. Thus black Americans’ experiences in the 1930s now largely forgotten, led into the civil rights movement in the USA that finally abolished segregation.

“Black Russians – The Red Experience” is the story of the dreamers who believed in a better world. This story resonates with the all-embracing words of Martin Luther King "I have a dream..." that have relevance in today's world.

On this edition of the Face to Face, Press TV conducts an exclusive interview with Randy Short, human rights activist, to discuss the plight of African Americans.

Short says he is opposed to what he calls the Anglo-American apartheid system present in the United States. He further added that this situation has become worse in the last fifty years and adds that a slow genocide of African Americans is taking place in America.

He also talks about the media’s demonization of blacks in America and calls for the autonomy of African-Americans and a referendum similar to the one held in Scotland as the solution.

Thousands took to the streets of Port-au-Prince Tuesday to mark the 23rd anniversary of the US-backed military coup that ousted President Jean-Bertrand Aristide from power in 1991.

The demonstration was called by Aristide's banned political party and popular movement Famni Lavalas, or "Great Flood." One of the protesters' demands is for Aristide's house arrest to be lifted, which has been in effect since September 11. Aristide is under investigation for alleged acts of corruption, money laundering and drug smuggling - charges he and members of his party deny.

The 1991 military intervention is remembered by Aristide’s social base as a "bloody coup" which claimed the lives of thousands.
