Sarodj Bertin crowned Miss Haiti Universe 2010

Sarodj Bertin crowned Miss Haiti Universe 2010 at a hotel in Port-au-Prince, Sunday, May 16, 2010

Sarodj Bertin, a 24 year old law student, studying in Dominican Republic, was crowned the new Miss Haiti Universe on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at the Miss Haiti beauty contest in Port-au-Prince, Haiti officials said. She will represent Haiti this summer at the prestigious Miss Universe Pageant to be held next August in the United States of America and at the Miss World 2010 beauty pageant.

In an interview with Yahoo.fr, Sarodj says "This is the best time to climb the world behind the suffering and poverty, we also have nice things like beauty".

Sarodj currently lives in the Dominican Republic, stands 5'11'' and represented Haiti in Miss Intercontinental 2005. Sarodj Bertin beat out 18 other candidates vying for the Miss Haiti 2010 title.

Haiti has not participated in the Miss Universe competition since 1989, or 21 years and the Miss World for 36 years.

  2. Umm, out of all the dark skinned girls...SHE got picked.

  3. What hotel was this done in?

  4. she is very beautiful.I am very proud of her. But there is one thing that I totally disagree with. The problem is they picked a bunch of not pretty at all dark skin women to compete with her. She is the only beautiful woman in this "competition".That was not in any way a competition. Haiti has countless of mavelously pretty dark skin women that could represent haiti as well. We have beauty in all shades of skin colors. That is really offensive. They should choose some gorgeous dark skin women to represent Haiti.

  5. I hope she wins miss Universe.I know for sure she is way prettier than many of the others contestants. she will make all of us proud. She is a remarkable beauty and I am sure she has a lot of potentialities. Good luck Sarodj! We are all very proud of you. We love you no matter what happens.

  7. I do not see why people are having so much trouble with the choice already made. As a matter of fact, Sarodj was and is the only contestant that can represent Haiti. if you are looking at the picture of them all together, in term of beauty, you can see clearly that she is the only pretty girl among them all. We have so many very beautiful competent dark skin women in Haiti. Why they did not choose some of them for the competition? Whoever they would choose later would not matter because we are all haitians, dark or light. but in this case, it is different.she had no rival at all. It is time for us to get over this. It is time for us to stand behind her. By the way she is verry beautiful and competent haitian young woman. Let's put behind all those non-senses to move ahead. I love her, I support her 100%. we all must do the same. I hope she wins Miss Universe.

  8. You don't get it, do you? I do not have any problem of her being crowned miss Haiti if it respects the norms of the game and the rules of fair competition. However, we need to start doing thing the right way. The question is did she earn it or given away to her. I know she is beautiful and she could have easily win the title, but you have to understand that demagoguery will only hurt everyone in the end. That is why we are so unstable as a country.

    ReplyDelete
  9. You still do not get it. Lets not make it about skin tone because a beauty pageant is solely based on the exterior. Although most of people seems to think so. How you walk, the costume, the smiling, the way you answer your question etc make some big differences.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I agree with Maurrna Haiti is dark skinned, and the girls representing it should be too. Colorism has no place in a country like Haiti who have fought long and hard for equality. Little Haitian girls deserve someone who looks like them.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I don't support cheaters. Sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I think you misunderstood my statement. What I said is that they should choose some nice looking dark skin women as well. because we have a lot of them in Haiti that are breath-takingin every way. But I did not say that Haiti should be represented by dark skin haitian women only. it would not make sense. We have haitians in all shades of skin colors. So they all should be present at the competition to be fair.Only Sarodj was pretty.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I do agree with you because skin tone is not an issue to me. But let's agree also on the fact that the other contestants were not up to the title. maybe they did that intentionally because They looked really unprepared not pretty at all. And I hate to see that. that was I was saying to Ciderkiss. Haitian women beauty should be represented in all shades of skin color.Dark and light. But in this picture it is only light skin beauty I see. We have so many breath-taking dark skin women that could stand together with her as haitian women. I don't have any problem with Sarodj. i do like her. I am sure as haitian, she will make us proud with all her packages. Let's put all the non-senses behind to support her.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I see what you mean Rent Boy. All those qualities do matter in these types of contests. But they always choose the one that is competent and pretty at the same time.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Sorry the girl with the mowhawk was prettier.

    ReplyDelete
  16. "you can see clearly that she is the only pretty girl among them all."

i question your standard of beauty here - and the judges.
also, we didnt see all the contestants. here are only 6, but as you can see, their numbers range from 2 to 23(?), there were clearly plenty women here.
furthermore, as beauty pagents keep claiming, outer beauty isn't the only thing they look at (i don't believe that, but that IS what they say)

    ReplyDelete
  17. agreed! she's gorgeous

    ReplyDelete
  18. I don't support cheaters. You should be ashamed to stand by such a unfair competition. Rigging makes you look like more of a loser. Compete fairly or don't compete at all.

  19. You guys talking about skin color...Did you guys know about Gerthie David? she was the "Black Goddess"in Haiti back in 1975 & she became the second black woman to runner-up in the history of Miss Universe Pageant in 1975....She was a beautiful black haitian who made it very far to the Miss Universe 1975 and I was very proud of her...Guys, it does not matter of the skin color...we all haitians from the same land...we need to stop that none sense skin color & be positive about supporting our haitians when they are doing something positive for the country that we all love very much.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I agree with you Talisa. I am not talking about skin color.I like Sarodj very much. And I am glad she is representing us. But my problem is that these dark skin women they choosed, to me were so far away from representing dark skin haitian women beauty because none of them are pretty. We have so many marvelously beautiful competent dark skin women. They are the ones that should be there with Sarodj. That is my only problem. I am very proud of Sarodj. They should show great beauty of haitian women in all the skin tones. Only Sarodj was pretty.

    ReplyDelete
  21. If we want her to lose. We don't have to give her any support. Than we will all fail along with her because she is now the new face of Haiti. Come on guys! let's grow up for Haiti'sake.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The problem i have is why must Haiti be represented by a dark skin woman you won't solve colorism by casting all light skinned people aside it only makes you appear petty and unfair. I mean I agree that a better competition could have been held but given the state of the country after the earthquake I find it uplifting that Haiti will have such a beautiful and competent contestant.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The end does not justify the means. She needs to grow up and do a fair competition. How are we supposed to have sisterhood when she stepped on all the other girls to get on top? It's not cute no matter what the cause. So Haitian girls have to be disrespected in order to help Haiti as a whole?

    ReplyDelete
  24. And we wonder why our country cannot go forward. We are living in an age where the US has a black president, the supreme commander of the US forces has been black a couple of times. Black women have won miss USA, a muslim woman won it this time around. Instead of all of us pulling for the person who is going to represent us, we are talking about skin shade. This time Sarodj won, next time someone darker might win, who cares. It is truly shameful, and like the Canadians say, very "tièrs-mondier".

Anyway, good luck cousin, hope you represent us well.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I do as well. And I stand by her 100%. We must all and encourage others to do the same. Because these jealous losers keep spreading some bad news around to boycott everything. How selfish and irrational they are! No matter how unfair the contest was, they should know when to surrender to save Haiti's face. Shame on them.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Wait a minute! Sarodj Bertin is haitian as well. In fact, She used to live in Haiti before we haitians assassinate her mother who was fighting for people's rights in Haiti. The rest of the family and herself moved to Dominican Republic because they felt unsafe in their own homeland. I would advice you to not listen to these self-pity jealous contestants who feel like the world, life has just ended for them because they are not Miss Haiti.

    ReplyDelete
  27. What they are doing now is way more hurtful to the country than the contest itself. Miss Sarodj wins, no matter how she wins, they should know when to yield for a good cause.it is like in an election. The loser always has to accept the defeit no matter how unfair it is. Fighting back will not have any positive outcome for any body. They are just jealous, selfish and desperate for not being selected. But Haiti is totally out of their agenda. It is their own interests that matter to them. Please, do not follow them. Haiti does not need this right now. Do not support them.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I ask myself the same question. why the losers don't want to move on and let Sarodj do what she has to do. they should be supporting her right now. Instead all they are doing is going around talking about non-senses, trying to boycott everything. They care only about their personal interests not Haiti. Unfortunatly, some of us cannot realise that. Maritza and Cottechese don't even think about the negative impact their behavior can provoke.

  29. sarodj bertin is my cousin, not only is she beautiful shes also very intelligent
when aristide still ran haiti,he ordered officials to assasinate her mother.as a result her family moved to dominican republic. the main reason sarodj decided to study law so she could re-open her mother's case and investigate her murder.so what is they chose her over the others?in my opinion she deserves it. and besides most ppl automatically assume haitians dont look good however now people will see that not all haitians are dark with short hair, etc. maybe she'll get rid of that stereotype because im getting very tired of ppl telling me i cant be haitian because of my complexion and my long hair.it gets annoying after awhile

    ReplyDelete
  30. The winner's father ran the contest and was a judge? The people judges were primarily Hispanics? WTF????? I personally do not have any thing against this woman but, the contest was rigged in her favor and that is the truth.
She is going to represent the majority of darker Hsitians? Not, she is representing herself on the backs of the poor and suffering. CASE CLOSED.

  31. SKIN TONE IS NEVER A PROBLEM WHEN YOU ARE LIGHTER, BRIGHTER, ALMOST WHITE.

    AND THAT IS THE TRUTH.

    ReplyDelete
  32. some of you may have known Sarodj in her twenties i have known her since she was a toddler she was born Miss Universe - elegant, beautiful, prideful, honest and humble - she inherited the gifts she has - nothing can stop her - she did not have to fight to win - Let see our Country through her Stop talking nonsense- You should have supported her 100% - she is a great patriot she could have hiden her nationality after her mother was terribly murdered in Haiti " as many of you have done, pretending that you are not Haitians - she is all the competition needs- She is not a cheater you don't know her - see her mother's records -Laureat of her promotion at the Law School in Haiti and Paris - See Lahaye - see Haitians Adoption in regards of Mireille Durocher Bertin - Sarodj you have put tears of joyce in many Haitian eyes in remembrance of your mother - we will support you 100% and the Lord of Victory and Justice will be with you and support you - We Love you Sarod -one time I told your Mom - DON'T WORRY ABOUT CRITICS - THEY THROW ROCKS AFTER RIPE FRUITS - I HAVE TO TELL YOU THE SAME --FIGHT THE ICEBERG I KNOW YOU ARE STRONGER THAN TITANIC-- WE LOVE YOU

    ReplyDelete
  33. Like I said before, the reason we are having those reactions is because usually the mixed haitians are not emotionally connected with the rest of the country.they don't have any sense of belonging in Haiti. i think they wished they were from another country. They are totally disconnected from the others typical black haitians. they don't even consider themselves as haitians. Also, they are the ones who build this stereotypes because I have never seen one of them represent Haiti in anything so people could notice them.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I totally agree with Rent Boy. We need to empathize fairness especially in a country where unfairness runs rampant. Fighting fair should be something we should be teaching. This competition also represents the lack of opprotunity offered to Haitians. Haitian girls have the right to be offered to compete.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Come on, Jealous. Let the girl be. She won and that is it. Get it to your heads. Your opinions can't change her title she will be representing Haiti.

    ReplyDelete
  36. This isn't about jealousy. There is so much wrong with this contest. Let's start with conflict of interest, favoritism, lack of opprotunity for Haitian women, classism, colorism, imperialism, rigging, etc. I cannot stand by that what so ever. Do it right or don't do it at all. She and her father are opprotunist who used the Haitian name to get themselves ahead.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I totally agree with "Rent boy" eventhough I will support sarodj 100%. The problem is not whether she was the most beautiful of all the other women, it's the fact that her father was one of the judges. This is what I would call coflict of interest. But I still think that we should all stand behind because she's representing HAITI. If she wins , we'll all win.

    ReplyDelete
  38. "if she wins we all win"? Not when she s taking the crown to the D.R.

    ReplyDelete
  39. How would you feel if Donald Trump's daughter was running for miss USA with Donald Trump as a Judge and the only makeup artists are those of Trumps daughter, that the whole judging panel is from The daughter s hometown? Do u think U d be surprised if she wins? NO. So that s exactly how Sarodj won. She was the only one carrying a suitcase because she was the only one who knew that this was the crowning day. Her makeup artist was the only one present, the judges were from..well the DR (where she lives). the translater,, her Father. I am very light skinned myself and I live in Santiago,D.R. PEOPLE do tell me that i don t look haitian and it bothers me.So yes it was my dream to see Haiti being represent by a beautiful girl so the stereotypes could stop. but not this way. What about the other contestants feelings,,, don t care right? We never care about others and that is where the problem is. And by the way if she wins it will be a dominican republic win because she has been trained by Domnicans. So whatever with that crappy contest.

    ReplyDelete
  40. But she already has won the title. What do you suggest for us to do now?

    ReplyDelete
  41. She will represent Haiti, not color. She did not cause sufferings and poverties in Haiti. She is just a Haitian citizen that wants to represent her country.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Au Contraire, from what I am seeing in South Florida, the mixed Haitians and the born Americans' Haitians are more proud to say that they are Haitians than a lot of sans papiers.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Raise Cain! Don't just sit there. I have already been sending emails to the miss universe organization about this fiasco.

    ReplyDelete
  44. You really are against that girl? By doing so you will mess up a chance for Haiti being represented in the Miss Universe competition.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I am a little late commenting on this.

A lot of people are complaining about Miss Bertin's complexion. Her fair skin is not something that should take away her rights to be Miss Haiti. There are light skinned Haitians, although they are a minority. It would be the same thing to say that Miss America cannot be an African American just because most Americans are Caucasian. We would call that discrimination, and saying that this girl cannot represnet Haiti because of the way she looks is the same exact thing. There are plenty of Haitians that do look like her. On top of that, she is a lawyer. Which means, she must be intelligent. That is definitely a big requirement to win.

However, I have heard that she hardly knows how to speak Creole or french, I would be more comfortable with someone who is more familiar with my culture to represent me. That is where my issue lies...I think I'm going to blog about this. lol

    ReplyDelete
  46. what the fuck are you talking about.. not all haitian women are dark brown.. you are worse than white people stereotyping.. open your eyes.. haitian people in general are not all the same color as they depict on television.. step into reality.

    ReplyDelete
  47. the reason for all that is because the darker haitians shake their heads and look down on us like were bad.. so fuck that.. dont tell me im not emotionally connected because if that is the case it is the darker haitians faults for denying me and trying to tell me im not haitian.. the darker haitians start the negativity.. not all dark haitians are like that but the ones that are, are the reason for this.. i mean look at the posts you guys have so much hatred towards us that if we are not 'emotionally connected' its because of your hatred.. keep hating that will not change shit.. only you yourself can change yourself. we are all 1 whether you deny it or not. thats that.

    ReplyDelete
  48. mignonne i feel your pain because my whole life i lived the same.. being denied by my own people.. but regardless of that and what you call a crappy contest.. she is representing haitian people. regardless on who trained her if thats true or not i could careless.. because of the fact she is miss haiti not miss dominican republic. what was she supposed to do? stay in the country that murdered her mother.. you gotta think about shit.. because honestly if the government killed my mother i wouldnt wait around for them to find me.. its not her fault she had to leave her own country.

    ReplyDelete
  49. beautiful words K Sully i couldnt agree anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  50. im sick of people that blame shit on skin color.. my uncle is darker than dark and he lives in a mini mansion in new jersey.. youre probably just a lazy person trying to blame everything on your skin color.. try getting up and doing something for yourself instead of complaining about other people..

    ReplyDelete
  51. You have got to be the most ignorant person I have heard speak in a long time. And I dont know who made you supreme judge or better yet, "God" to decide who's pretty or not. It is your opinion that these other women are not worthy to stand beside your goddess of a friend, which by the way I have nothing against. Good Luck to her, because whether she cheated or not, she wont be cheating anything in Vegas, thats for sure. Nonetheless, you dare degrade these other women with whatever the hell your standard and definition of beauty is. Did you ever stop to think that you are criticizing God's work. No wonder these young kids out have no self worth and esteem. Its because people like you refuse to see the beauty in them. You are so shameless in your judgments. I hope your children never have to face people like you in the world. Get a grip.

  53. Racism? No body will say it is racism if a black woman wins the Miss U.S.A.(oh, wait a minute, that had happened already! several times I think).
I am panamanian, and there is a traditional beauty contest here called "panamenisima reina negra" (the panamanian black queen". I do believe this contest should be abolished already, THIS IS A RACIST CONTEST, if there were something in Germany like "German white queen" or in the U.S. or whatever, everybody would say it is RACISM, but no one says so about a "Black Queen" contest.
And I just want to make another point, I am not black or white, I am a very mixed latina, I have black and Spanish in my background, and who the hell knows what else LOL

  56. Haiti and America are two different countries with two different pasts. America has dragged blacks over here, and exploited them for years. Blacks have unwillingly helped build America with their blood, sweat, and tears. They have every right to call themselves AMERICAN. Even still it's hard to see unmixed looking blacks in the media due to the fact that in America light is right. So let’s not act like were ignorant about this. Let’s be real. I still don't have a problem with Vanessa Williams, of Halle Berry winning a crown though because they are a part of America's mixed heritage, and we shouldn't hide that, but we shouldn’t also disrespect blacks by calling these women "black" when they are clearly not. There has also been many black girls with Miss America, and Miss USA titles. We even had a Haitian Miss Florida by the name of Anastasia Pierre. Haiti on the other hand is a mostly black nation that used to be run by whites & mulattoes, and even-though we are a "free" nation we still think that lighter is better because that is all we see, and support. The ideal Haitian beauty IS light-skinned with long hair, and is not really "black". This image hurts dark-skinned black women the most, who are the majority of the Haitian population. This is detrimental to Haitian girls who are already slathering skin bleaching creams on their bodies’ everyday to be fair-skinned. They are also hard pressed to see representations of themselves in the media, and even if they wanted to be that representation of the “dark skinned beauty” they would have a hard time getting “air time”. Or they would get beat out by a light-skinned girl. It's the same colonial mentality that Americans have about "blackness". There are way too many women out there in the media who look like Sarodj. She is nothing special, and if you think that mixed heritage, light skin, and long hair will win a contest then you are sadly mistaken. Sarodj is a “safe” choice, and that will not win a pageant. If they wanted a white looking girl to win the crown then they will pick a white girl. Haiti is a mostly Dark skinned African nation that is in serious need of having "REAL" black beauty represented, and don't give me any of that bullshit "What is "black"?" rhetoric! We know what blackness is, and we do everything in our power to make sure that it is not shown because we are ashamed of it still. We have all heard the taunts in the school yard about being too dark. So don't act like you don't know. These girls grow up to be slighted even more when they try to chase their dreams. The type of beauty that Sarodj has is overrepresented among blacks, and overrepresented period! We have yet to tap the darkest part of our beauty spectrum because we don’t want to.

    ReplyDelete
  57. So, the point here is that she doesn't have the right to win because she is not black enough? Even though she would have been the most beautiful between the contestants? Who is the racist?
And Im not saying she is the most beautiful, (because in those pics I can barely see the other girls, and neither that she is the most beautiful because of her skin color, what you are saying is that a black woman should represent Haiti because more of their people is black, and what about the black woman (or mixed if you want to see it like that) who represented Italy in 1996? She shouldn't have represented Italy because more of their people is white?
Sometimes I believe that black people are more racists against themselves than white people is.
I am not black or white, I am a very mixed latina, I don't see people by their color, people is people, and people is not beautiful because of how they look but because of their acts.

  62. I am in total accord with you. In fact, Haitians never had a skin problem but a class problem. Haitians are known to inter-marry many nationalities around the world.

At least, Ms. Bertin should be able to speak Haitian languages to qualify as a national representative.

  66. uhm ok. i totally support who ever represents haiti. but ur argument just doesnt stand. it's not because she lost her mom that she deserves it. she's not the only one who lost her mom.plenty of mother's got murdered. the only thing that doesn't seem right is the rumor that her dad was one of the judges that totally eliminate transparency and favors her.which is not fair at all. if her dad wasnt' on the commitee ok. then it's totally fair

  67. THE PROBLEM IS HAITI IS 98% BLACK!! & OUT OF THE WHOLE COUNTRY WITCH IS A COUNTRY OF BLACK PEOPLE THEY CHOSE A WOMAN WHO LOOKS LIKE A WHITE DOMINICAN & WAS NOT EVEN RAISED IN HAITI!!! THATS THE PROBLEM SHE IS PRETTY BUT LOOKS NOTHING LIKE A HAITI GIRL SHE DOES NOT EVEN LOOK BLACK FOR THAT MATTER!!! THATS LIKE AMERICA DOING MISS AFRICAN AMERICA AND CHOSE A WHITE LOOKING GIRL WHO IS MIXED BUT LOOKS WHITE TO WIN ITS BULLSHIT!!!! BLACKS CANT EVEN WIN IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY WAKE UP!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  68. i feel you 110% with everything you said & she wont cheat in Vegas for sure!!!!! but on the other hand maybe they intend to give it to haiti so they chose her we shall see

  69. I am happy we are represented.
Her skin color should not be an issue.
Howeve, I highly doubt she will make it to the top 15 (or top 20, if there is a top 20 this year). Comparing to the other misses, she is a little chubby, almost f a t.
She may be getting a lot of attention right now in the international press because on election night, you will not see her at all.

    ReplyDelete
  70. @ New York- New York: Where do u get that she's fat? Forget her skin color now ur opening up a whole new can of worms. What is she suppose to be a size 0? She has curves which makes her body a whole lost sexier than those sticks. Anyway, Donald Trump hand picked her and 4 other girls to go around and promote the pageant. And in the article she was listed in the top 15 girls from the popularity vote...so maybe she'll get there maybe she won't but geez, Let the competition happen first!

    ReplyDelete
  71. I can't open the link on my phone but even if she did so what? A black Dominican girl was crowned Miss Italy and they went into an uproar b/c she's black (and she's Hispanic) but she grew up in Italy and speaks fluent Italian, as does Sarodj speaks fluent Spanish. The same way that if I was born in Haiti, moved to America, and represented USA in a pageant. A muslim girl who was born in the middle east represented the USA so people need to get over the fact that she's a light skin Haitian living in DR!

    ReplyDelete
  72. You know what's crazy, growing up I keep hearing dark skin folks saying they get the shorter end of the stick. My father is light, my mother darker. I ended up my dad's complexion and my brother is in between. I don't care how light I am, I am BLACK. Black comes in all shades from as dark as the model Alek Wek or the actor Djimon Honsou, to as light as Mariah Carey...or even an albino for that matter, but an albino with 2 black parents is still a black person no? B/c they have a lack of melanin that makes them white? No it doesn't! I had to keep hearing "white girl" from my dad's side of the family growing up. I feel like I have to over compensate to prove my "blackness" and it ain't right. "You don't look Haitian, I thought u were Dominican" I hear hundreds of times through out my life, even when I wear my hair natural without a perm and have it kinky curly. This isn't even about Sarodj, people are making this about black and light. If I put an Indian Remy straight weave in my hair and went to try out for Miss Haiti are you going to tell me no bc I'm light skin? Its not right and that's not fair. Prio Miss Haiti's inclusind the one that was in the Miss Universe have been darker skin so this right here SHOULD not be an issue. If every single girl picked for Miss Haiti were light, then I could say ok ur on to something but it hasn't been so everyone needs to drop the complexion thing!

For the general public, I think she has a fabulous body. In pageantry, she's a little chubby. Most girls, including west african delegates have their ribs sticking out. I don't think our delegate would survive the swimsuit competition, although I hope I'm wrong.

I have been watching MU for years and years. I'm not watching it this year just b/c Haiti is in it. Last year was supposed to be the last year I was watching it, as the Miss Universe has clearly become a joke. The amount of serious delegates left behind is ridiculous and you see average and mediocre ones on the stage. In addition, the Donald arbitrarily picks 6 out of the 15 finalists.
But since, Haiti is participating this year, I decided to watch it again.

Yaya, I think you made a valid point by saying that the pageant has not even started yet, so give the girl a chance. I sincerly wish her the best, cauz we could all benefit from it at some level,if she were to be in the top 15.

  74. LETS BE REAl!!.. people are like "WOWW" because she dont look like most Haitian women. On the one hand people must understand that Haiti has different tone of skin color. This is the first not so dark representative that Haiti has provided. Is not like every year there's a lighter skill color woman representing Haiti(then you can say oh hold on Haiti is not well represented).therefore this should not be an issue. Still i have to say so myself that she looks like a girl that would be representing Dominican Republic. i say this because most people in DR are of that color tone or looks(with a margin of error of lightness and darkness and beauty). so common lets cut the "crap" of shes to light or dont look haitian and let the girl compete and represent.

  75. Mariah Carey is NOT black end of story. If we went to our ancestors in Africa they would laugh at you by calling Mariah "black". Mariah is mixed. The "complexion thing" will not be dropped until we treat each other fairly. We need to stop sweeping this under a rug. Just because you have black experiences does not make you black. It's all in the blood.

    ReplyDelete
  76. LOL....I would be laughed at? Why bc her skin is so pale even though she has a BLACK father which is in her BLOOD as you say? So President Obama would be laughed at also if I told Africans that he was black, bc his mother is white also. Oh but wait, his fathers country of Kenya was loving him when he was running for President even though he's MIXED, same as Mariah, she just happens to have less melanin. Whether it's Halle Berry, Alicia Keys, Lenny Kravitz or Boris Kodjoe, they all have one black one white parent, but would Boris be considered black bc he's brown skin, and Alicia Keys not bc she's light? Or Lenny Kravitz is black bc his hair is kinky even though his father is Jewish? At the end of the day black people come in All Shades whether light or dark. And I don't know what "black experiences" there are to make someone black. U either are or ur not whether its 100% or 50%. But at any rate, this while light/dark skin feud isn't just among blacks. India has it just as bad. Dark is dirty and poor while the light ones with blue/green eyes are the sense of beauty. But people can think whatever or however they want. Its YOU (generally speaking) who decided if you want to feed into it or not. I choose not to. Like I said, she is the first light skin Miss Haiti to be known and everyone is talking about it likes its been going on forever. People need to get off that.

  77. This is just for those who have the issue of a light skin woman being picked over dark skin...I checked the Miss Universe website and looked at every woman that is representing their country. 3 spanish speaking countries that are predominately light have Black women representing them:Ecaudor, Nicaragua and Honduras. But Haiti, a predominately black nation of darker complexion has a lighter skin female representing OMG! I wonder if there is an uproar. Amongts the Nicaraguans, Hondurians, and Ecuadorians for picking a black woman. How dare they! How about Miss Jamaica being light skin? But that's not right either? And the how about the people of Indian ancestry in Guyana where no "coolie" Indian isn't representing their county. Or how about Miss Puerto Rico? She looks white, not like J.Lo...oh South Africa, shame on you for choosing a white woman, when will Blacks prosper in that country. And last but not least, the horrible Us of A for choosing an arab Muslim for Miss USA. She was born in the middle east and even goes back to her homeland to compete in pageants there but for her to be Miss USA? Not Fair! Oh please! Look how all that sounds? Everyone is going on and on about Sarodj being light skin, I live in America and haven't (not that I've looked either) heard much about Miss USA. Most likely the ones who are against her are the same ones against President Obama bc of color. So my Haitian people please stop feeding into the dumbness about skin color. There will be no moving forward if YOU continue to feed into it and run with it.

  80. Aaahhhh, the old "love thy self" derailing tactic. The pageant was rigged in her favor for various reasons. Calling bullshit by any other name does not make it stink any less. If societ saw lighter skin and bi-racials as "black" then we would have numerous sociological studies (which have been duplicated) proving that lighter skinned women marry faster, darker skinned men get more time in prison, and that the income gap between mixed/lighter skinned blacks in comparison to darker skinned blacks mirror the income gap between whites, and blacks. So id you want to call dark skinned blacks crazy you're gonna need alot of ammo to do so because many social scientist are on their side. This is real and we have been complaining about this for hundreds of years. Like I said if we TRULY cared about each other we would DO something about this instead of ignoring it. I'm not an Ostrich unlike some people. I see the TRUTH. It stinks.

It's how we categorize the product of those unions is what I have a problem with. They are not fully "black" end of story. I wouldn't want my bi-raical kid being shoved in the "black" category. They have a choice to choose BOTH now. Talk what you know. By the way the response to the whole Fantasia/ Alicia Keys bullshit is in response to the online community who have gave one a Ho pass while telling the other to ho sit down. They are both GUILTY. Skin color plays a role in that as well.

  83. @Ciderkiss,
All I can say is, Hallelujah! to your rebuttal. You KNOW what you are talking about, I must say. And that's not to say that I have a problem with Bertin. I just cant find the energy to care about this either way right now. Truthfully, I'll only be watching because the word Haiti will be mentioned. However, you are absolutely right. And that "You need to love yourself" bullshit is crap, because I happen to love myself just as I am. But I am not blind, deaf, nor dumb. It's others who can't seem to love me, except for a few special people, who see beyond the surface. All my life, I have been excluded, overlooked, humiliated, rejected, or just staight ignored based on my complexion, and it's clear. Im talented, I think I'm pretty, I'm a nice chic, I have a nice figure at least in my opinion, yet all my fair-skinned friends, even the overweight, obnoxious, air-headed ones, get approached more than me. They date all kind of ballers and celebrities while I can hardly get even the darkest broke dude to notice me. Nonetheless, I have come to terms with the issue. I worry more, these days, about my beautiful brown-skinned daughter, and the fact that she will have to face this cruel, demoralizing world before she finally figures out that it's not HER, it's THEM, as I have. As you said, if we cared truly, we would do something rather than sit there denying it. But I digress. I hope the girl wins, unless she cheated of course, since we need some posivity happening for Haiti right now. However, my hope is that we begin adressing this issue and understanding its impact on our children. We need to rid our culture of this pathetic social hierarchy of race, color, and complexion once and for all. Not only is it is ignorant, for goodness' sake, it's inhumane.

  85. Hey JJ,

If this was just about Sarodj and the alleged cheating then I wouldn't argue anything b/c what's wrong is wrong. But like I had said before, if Sarodj was darker as all the other girls are then her complexion wouldn't even be a factor b/c they are all on an "even" playing field and the discussion would only be about the cheating. But it seems the fact that she's light is like a double whammy. You guys seem to ignore the fact that Gerthie David was Miss Haiti in the Miss Universe pageant and 1st runner up in the competetion (2nd black woman to do that). She is of darker complexion. Why hasn't there been a Miss Haiti in the competition since '75 I don't know why or understand but Sarodj is not the first and won't be the last. And the first one wasn't light skin so why all the beef about her complexion? This is what I'm not getting. I totally understand how people are in this world, and like I said it's not just black, b/c Indian people have this problem in their own country, but if the first Miss Haiti in the Miss Universe pageant was darker then WHY are people getting on the fact that this time it's a light skin girl? Are you telling me that only dark skin females should represent Haiti and no one else, whethere they are light or caramel? Again I can't tell you why there hasn't been a Miss Haiti in the Miss Universe paeant since 1975 but since that was before our time for some of us, it doesn't matter. Let's not be proud of the fact that she mad it to first runner up. Let's just dwell on Sarodj being Miss Haiti now and that she's light....You are right to tell your daughter it is THEM and not her, that not matter what anyone says she is beautiful. Our First Lady is of a darker complexion, smart and beautiful and her "mixed" husband thought so himself. The richest, most powerful single (not rich through marriage) woman in America is a woman of darker complexion...Oprah. all I'm saying is if its about her cheating then let it be about that. The article that I read with some other contestants that brought up the issue just talked about that and never mentioned complexion. Its in the comments that people were bringing it up. We might as well disregard Ms Gerthie David as if she did nothing b/c since she wasn't light skin, there isn't anything to talk about.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I forgot to mention Marjorie Vincent who was Miss America in 1991...American born Haitian woman who was crown and does not look like Sarodj. Her complexion is I would say compares to #9 in the picture above. She's lighter than the other 4 darker girls but at least she's some sort of brown right? I bring her up b/c I remember reading somewhere someone mentioned Vanessa Williams being picked, but again, people mentioned the light sking girl and the "unfairness" but forget or just don't know that there were people darker than Vanessa and darker than Sarodj that had worn their titles.

  87. Thank you ny for noticing this.. And actually speaking the truth I gave up on this article about a month ago because of racism and hate towards someone of the same race because of lighter skin.. This is my second cousin but I realized when to bite my tongue because ignorant people are so blinded by their own ignorance it defeats talking.. I agree with you where if it's just about her cheating there would be no argument but the racist people on her use that to just what they say and use it for fuel.. I am a light skinned Haitian too and saying light skin Haitian makes me cringe but since we have that label I'll add it to my tag.. You who claim that lighter skinned people have it better is probably like that for you because you dwell on that nonsense more then proving it wrong.. Example my uncle in new jersey is darker than dark and is not an athlete but lives in a mini mansion in the same neighborhood as jr smith a person who plays for the denver nuggets his wife my aunt is lighter skinned and is a teacher.. My uncle is damn near a president of a company.. So about this dark skin bs if you think it is so true instead of hating and bashing your own race for being lighter try proving what you believe wrong because the negative thinking is probably what causes these statistics of what you claim to be inhumane.. Not everyone In the world is going to like you in your lifetime but that doesn't mean that they look down on you because you're darker if anything they'd look down on you for ignorance and thinking negatively as you do

  88. After writing that I just realized that your own people can be more unfair than outsiders. Every caribbean island is composed of black, white, indian (east and native) with Jamaica having a population of Chinese. Yes Haiti is mostly a black country, but guess what not 100%. So why outcast light skin people from representing a country b/c they are light? I'm here trying to fight off the ignorant people who 1) think every single person in Haiti is poor 2) think that every single Haitian is black as tar 3)that Haitians are a dumb people but then I also gotta fight my own people to represent my people? Damn! If a dark skin girl already repped then why can't a light skin? @Ciderkiss, JJ and whomever else, let's talk the next time Miss Haiti is in the competetion and she happens to be light. Bc if the argument right now is alone on skin complexion there is none. Let's not forget Miss Gerthie Davis as if she didn't exist which is what you guys are doing. First Miss Haiti to represent was dark, 2nd is light, (I don't see the pattern yet) let's see from here on out.

  89. thats all im saying too.. another example.. dominican republic. right next door to haiti.. same island. they have light skin to black dominicans.. its the SAME island so why is it possible there without second guessing but not in haiti.. if all the hate towards sarodj is about the controversy with her cheating then so be it.. but its not its just an excuse that 80% of you who are bashing her use to talk about not liking her for her skin color.. same thing as avoiding risking her life to live in the DR you use that to claim she doesnt deserve it because of living in the DR instead of dying? lets be real.. if its about light skin dark skin.. the taino arawak indians who are the native haitians are closer to 'light skin' then 'dark skin' so chew on that history.. im not trying to make this dark and light skin im just defending my family.. and im also sick of my own people being racist towards light skin haitians because of ignorance.. its enough when other races question me about being haitian but when my own people do it and bash their own people what can you say about something like that? thats like a white person calling another white person a honkey or some shit.. it makes no sense to me.. but maybe some of you find sense in it.. i know myself and have learned through the years thats all i need to do.. i dont need you to believe that i exist because i know i do. the end. im done ranting and talking because i cant change the way you people think only you can do that. 2 fingers.

  90. Lady Mary
    ARE YOU SERIOUS?
How is she Indian? Her father (Jean) is a black man and her mother (Mireille) was a Haitian grimelle. Why isn't she a true representative of Haiti? Have you ever been to Haiti? Have you ever been to Port au Prince? Are you even Haitian?
There are Haitians of many complexions.
It annoys me to see so much stupidity, non sense, racism against one of our own.
Why so much hatred and stupidity against her?
Is it jalousy? Frankly, Lady Mary, this is a very sad, disappointing post that you have written here.
Another thing, I'm also annoyed that a bunch of Haitian-American kids, who know NOTHING of Haiti, become masters of discussing Haitian racial realities.
So, ladies and gents, would you have reacted with so much racism if the winner was a poor light skin girl from Cazal or Fond des Blancs (2 poor villages of light skin people in Haiti).Would you have reacted the same way if a super rich black girl was going to MU?

Whatever you may feel, on August 23rd, Sarodj will be representing Haiti on NBC. I'm standing 300% behind my Haitian Queen.
    Go SARODJ!!!

  91. Lol @ 2 fingers...for real! And did your "ignorant" self just drop some knowledge on these people? Lol. One day this conversation will be of no use ever. The whole country of AYITI (which was named by the Taino Indians) was inhabited by Indians until the Europeans wiped them out, as in DR. The main difference is that the Africans in DR were having plenty of bi-racial kids whether by force or by choice in DR. In Haiti the Africans weren't trying to sit down to the French, they fought and fought until they won. My point is, an African who was brought into Haiti unwillingly who has a child born in Haiti ends up being Haitian and seems ok to rep the country. An African who has a child with a white French person in Haiti, for some reason can't represent the country even though it's their birth right. The people who are getting on someone for being chosen b/c they are no better than the ignorant, racist people they are b*tching about. They are doing exactly what they hate in reverse. Sarodj or any other contestent now before or after is not here to represent any person! She is repping her country, her parents country.

  92. @New York-New York

I definitely believe their reactions would be different if she were darker. If she were darker there would be nothing to talk about except the whispers of a conspiracy or cheating going on. And if it were a darker skin sister who cheated, the reaction wouldn't be to burn her at the stake as they are doing to Sarodj. It would be more of sympathy and empathy and disbelief "oh I hope its not true b/c that would be such a big blow to Haiti" instead of "I'm writing a letter to the Miss Universe pageant b/c this is unfair! She cheated and it's a light skin girl who cheated at that!"

  96. @ B,
Wow, isn’t that something. I guess your comment was directed at me. Lol, I regret reading you post all the way through cause it was a complete waste of my time. First of all, how the hell can you tell me what I have experienced if you have never been my shoes? I ain't no dumb chick who you can spew a couple of stupidly put together words and think that I am just going to back down from what I know to be true for me. I suggest you redirect that nonsense towards someone who doesn’t have a clue. Secondly, you sound just like those guilt-ridden people who treat others as inferiors as a result of a misguided complex of superiority passed down from their white ancestors who probably owned some slaves and then turn it around and act like WE have a chip on our shoulder or we are just too unintelligent to understand what we are feeling or to realize that the scale is unbalanced in our favor. Trust me, darling, we know what the hell we’re talking about. How dare you dismiss my feelings? Don’t think you can bamboozle me into thinking something is wrong with ME. No, honey. Been there, done that. It's clear that you are not too bright because the reference to your "dark" uncle is totally irrelevant. Of course there are successful people of all shades, Duh!!! The point was, for the millionth time, and it doesn’t take much intelligence to comprehend this: there is an innate tendency by most people in the modern world to equate lighter with better, which obviously has to do with our history. It’s a mentality that evolved over centuries from the institution slavery: white=superior, black=inferior. This is something we inherited. Do you not know that mulatto slaves worked inside the house while black slaves worked the fields….I mean c'mon. I can see how you can be tired of hearing it, specially, if you don’t think that way, but you can’t just deny that others have this mentality and that WE are the ignorant, negative thinking ones. How is that a fair stance to take? I, in no way, expect everyone to like me, I’m not a child. However, I am smart enough to make sense of what is going on around me. And I can certainly understand that when I’m alone, I get approach 10 times more than when I am with lighter skinned friends. I don’t think I need to be a Nobel Prize winning scientist to figure out what that means. And I'm not claiming anything. I am telling YOU that it is inhumane to demean and demoralize little brown children coming up in this world with these unreasonable social attitudes. They deserve a real chance at feeling just as important and valued as the next kid. If you don’t truly know what you are talking about, you need to stay out of the conversation. You can’t just come in impose your views as if it were the gospel. Nonetheless, don’t take this personal, I had to go hard on you because you got pretty insulting in your post there. But it’s not even that serious. There are situations you just have to live in order to understand them. Ciao.

  97. @NY1,
My dear, I get where you are coming from. I have come to realize that I’m not even debating the same issue because I really don’t see a problem with any shade representing Haiti. The way I see it, the Americas is populated by a relatively new breed of people that emerged from the concept of migration. To me we are so far removed from our ancestors, wherever they may have come from, that we really can’t even claim them as own any longer. And I’m not saying we should deny them at all, now. I am simply saying that culturally we have metamorphosed into a new race. Thus, we are not like Africa (mostly black), nor like Europe (mostly white), nor Asia (mostly yellow) or like the Americas once was, (all red) for that matter. America, (North, Central, and South) has been transformed into a Mix of all the other races. So I believe, Bertin, as does any other, qualifies to compete, because the competition seems to be based more so on culture rather than on being an actual real native of the area these women are representing. My argument was really addressing the notion that these kinds of attitudes of lighter vs. darker do not exist in our culture and the world at large. I find it to be ludicrous because I know they do, and I know this first hand. Hooray for the girl! As I said before as long as she did not cheat the other women out of the chance to represent for their country, it’s all good. I hope she gets the crown. We need something to proud of right now.

  100. jj.. trust me if i were talking about you it wouldve been known and i wouldve referred to you and used your name.. i was addressing everyone who is bashing lighter skin people.. im sorry you are so defensive that it resulted in your poor attempt to try to insult me.. look at all the posts on this page and tell me who is being attacked more?? you claim all this hatred towards darker skinned people but on this forum all i see is the opposite. also tell me where i started talking?? its when i realized people are bashing my 2nd cousin.. my family miss haiti sarodj bertin however you want to call her.. i am not here to bash you who feel like you are getting the short end of the stick.. that is what you fail to realize. i use what people say on here about not having fairness and shit like that and just try to explain in my life i dont see it like that and gave an example of my uncle.. all this to me is just people showing anger because a minority colored person of haiti is representing the country.. i believe what new york new york said when if it was a darker haitian woman involved in controversy and accusations of cheating no one on here would be bashing her.. this cant be proven but im sure it would definitely be true.. i can see your insecurities by you saying im trying to bamboozle you.. maybe it has nothing to do with your skin color but the way you think? this slave mentality you speak of does not exist in me or else i would date white women.. and i havent dated a white woman. my exgirlfriend was darker than me.. so as far as your life goes.. you can only speak on that.. as far as your problem with men.. maybe the women youre around are better looking then you in the eyes of men that are approaching them.. maybe it has nothing to do with skin color but you think that has something to do with color because it is a fact.. which doesnt necessarily make it true and/or the reason they do not approach you.. but like i said all im on here for is to defend my family.. my cousin sarodj.

  102. If she was darker this would have never happened, and we would have been quick to "put her in her place". So let's not act like we are dumb. I dislike Sarodj because how she won was shady. So she deserves to have shad thrown in her direction. We should not ROB Haitian women of any opprotunity to better their lives. I don't agree that the first Miss Haiti to go to a Miss Universe pageant in 20 some odd years should be so light. It's like saying all the other Miss Haiti's weren't good enough to go to the Miss Universe/Miss World/Miss International pageants. That sends the WRONG message to black girls. Like I said before Sarodj is not in the minority when it comes to her type of beauty in the media's eye. We really need to to take a risk instead of being safe. No one said she cheated because she was light skinned. What we are saying is that it does not help her situation at all, when all you need to do is flip through the T.V. to find many women who look like her. At the end of the day she, her father, and the domincan judges slapped Haitian women in the face. We KNOW the history. We KNOW whats up so don't act like you got amnesia all of the sudden. There was too much wrong with her winning that has nothing to do with her skin color, but you jump on her skin color because that is the only thing you feel you can argue about. YOU de-railed the argument from the fact that the pageant was rigged, and acted like you are her are victims. Get over yourselves.

This is from YOU. I started commenting this month if not July. AFTER and in btwn those comments about her complexion and what Haiti should be represented by you talked about it being rigged. And like I have said numerous times, if its about her cheating then let it be about that but YOU and others started talking about her complexion. YOU get over it. You talk about how the world prefers light over dark and how its wrong so how dare you then basically completely reverse that by saying that all the women to rep Haiti should be dark. I have a light grandmother and a darkd grandmother, your gonna tell me that my light skin on can't rep Haiti b/c she's light? So b/c I'm light I can't represent the Haitian girl? B/c all Haitian girls are one complexion right? You are something else. If there was a stick called racism/colorism there would be someone one one end holding it saying it should be all about light skin, and you would be at the other end saying its all about dark skin and I would end up the in middle. You say your not an ostrich then pick your head up and see that Haiti has light skin people and they aren't going anywhere. If the girl didn't "cheat", as you can see from your first comment and thereafter it would just be about her skin tone and THAT'S a shame! Your first thing that made you cringe was that she was light skin, not that she cheated. No one derailed the convo except you buy changing gears to talk about her "cheating". Your primary instict, you started typing YOUR words on her about her complexion. No one else. And that tells me A LOT! I want people who don't know to see ALL aspects of Haiti instead of the poverty they see in TV. Royal Caribbean Cruise line has Haiti as an itinerary but it use to say Labadee, Hispaniola as if they didn't want people going to Haiti. It's when I was in H.S. they changed it to read Labadee, Haiti, b/c people made noise. Haiti was big on tourism with an influx of Italians who came in and opened up shop but once AIDS ran rampant, people got scared. Many Syrians, Lebanese people etc...Would you have the audacity to tell someone from Egypt, Morocco or Libya that even though they're country is in the continent of Africa but they don't look black (since most of the continent is black) that they can't say they are AFRICAN? It's stupid but of course they are African, but in the way you think and some others, they don't make up the majority so they don't represent Africa's face. But guess what...they represent part of Africa, not all Africa is desert, not all jungle, not all safari not all tuts, just like not all of Haiti is dark. Now get over that.

  104. *It's a stupid question but of course they are African.

  105. Let us support Miss Bertin. Let us be proud of her. She truly cares about Haiti. The country needs people like her. We must let go of the negativity because it will get us nowhere. Please, let us set aside our criticism and support this beautiful human-being. Big hug to all of you and have a beautiful and sunny day.

  106. @NY1

Yes, I DID say that DELIBERATELY (I will not apologize for speaking the truth) because it was OBVIOUS. I also wanted to start a dialogue on this so I threw the first punch. Before I posted the comment I had already known that the judges were Dominican. What I was looking for by making that comment was WHY Dominican judges wouldn't pick a girl that looked like the rest of Haiti but prettier. NO ONE gave me the CORRECT response that the Dominican judges were to blame for doing this to Haiti. *Sarodj's party is also responsible* The Dominican judges had the power to choose a Miss Haiti and clearly they don't feel that blackness is beautiful. Sad.

    ReplyDelete
  107. You have a valid point to criticize the way Miss Bertin was elected.
    Now, remember your Haitian history.
Haiti has four founding fathers Louverture, Dessalines, Christophe (blacks) and Alexandre Petion (mulatto).
The Haitian flag under Dessalines, Soulouque and Duvalier was the vertical black and red. It meant "l'union du noir et du mulatre (union of the black and the mulatto)".

So, Haiti belongs to blacks and lights. Miss Bertin, a grimelle, can totally represent us.

Let us stop the intolerance among each other.

    ReplyDelete
  108. That is fine. No one is asking you to apologize about your whatever your thought is on this situation. Just don't put it on other people by telling me or anyone else that were are making it about color when it was clearly you by your initital repsonse. Whether you know about the Dominican judges before hand or not, your initial reaction was the fact that she was light skin. Doesn't matter there were 4 Miss Haiti's in the Miss Universe pageant before her whom were darker than her. And if you wanted your original question to be why did the Dominicans choose a lighter skin female or feel that light skin is prettier, it's b/c Dominican's have a huge complex issue with complexion. It runs more rampant there than a lot of places. I knoe many Domincan people that would say that the men love white women with blonde hair (ie: Alex Rodriguez dating Madonna, Kate Hudson, and Cameron Diaz...all blonde lol) I have seen skin lightening cream being sold at a Dominican salon. I've seen documentaries, read stories about how much they try to stay away from being called black. As many of them that have Black blood in them they would never say they have any trace of African in them, but ask them where their curly hair, wide hips and big butt came from....Dark skin is not beautiful to many of them, but b/c there are some bad apples and that is how THEY are, you shouldn't then take it to the next extreme and say that only dark people can represnt Haiti anyway. A light skin has the right to be Miss Haiti just as a dark skin female has the right to be Miss DR. Colorism is wrong and you say you are against yet in the same breath you will say that only one shade of people are Haitian people and that's what is to be represented...nothing else.

    ReplyDelete
  109. That was not my initial reaction. MY initial reaction was that I posted her winning all over my Haitian friends Facebook profiles excited to have a Miss Haiti represented. Skin color was a minor issue I was willing to let go because I thought automatically that fought a fair fight and won. Then I found out about the ENTIRE rigging process. Skin color plays a role, but so does class-ism, and racism which I DESPISE plays a MAJOR role. She didn't win on her own merits. She was "selected". I disagree with picking a girl so light until we have a more balanced beauty standard. When we see all skin colors, hair textures, and all nationalities fairly represented then skin color wont matter. It's like saying that Americans are white. That is why I don't have a problem with mostly white or light countries having black representatives because white women dominate society anyways. A black beauty queen isn't really going to put a dent in the white standard of beauty. Until then it's only fair to factor skin color, eye-color, and hair texture (basically *whiteness*) in because those are issues unique to women of color. I didn't make skin color a big deal I responded to those who took offense at my skin color comments without fully trying to understand where I'm coming from. The main thing that pisses me off is the selection process, and how Haitians were totally left out of their own pageant. Haitian women were robbed of the opprotunity to compete and there was no transparency whatsoever. That is shady as hell. Not to mention I can't find one interview that Sarodj has done with a Haitian news source. Not one video of her speaking creole. WTF!? That should have been the first thing she did.

    ReplyDelete
  110. By the way the girl with the #9 is one of the women who complained.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Out of all of the contestants, Bertin did have the best shoes.

    ReplyDelete
  112. I saw pictures of the contesteants in their gowns, costumes and bikini. Now I see what you are talking about when it comes to Miss Haiti's size. She's def not fat but man a lot of the girls are skin on top of bones. She has thighs, hips and chest and a lot of the others don't. But someone had made a comment that b/c she's so shapely she looks more like a video girl than someone who can be Miss Universe which the focus is mainly on beauty and not sexuality and Sarodj oozes sexuality. Well we just have to see how this all goes down.

    ReplyDelete
  113. I haven't seen any video of her speaking creole either...she did however do an interview with haitiennemag.com (in englsh). But before getiing on Sarodj for "cheating", how come no one is going after the main culprit her director Magali Febles? And why Haitian people in the country let it happen and I will say how they let it happen in a bit. This women Magali (who is Puerto Rican/Dominican) was the director of the Miss Puerto Rico franchise for many years. Not until recently did Miss PR 2007 Ingrid Rivera speak out on how cruel and corrupt this woman really is b/c she had a 2 yr gag order on her. The morning of the finals of Miss Universe, Ingrid found out that Magali still owed them $40,000. Ingrid was humiliated by Magali, told she was fat, left in Vietnam on a trip Magali wanted her to go on with no way back home to PR until her parents dished out the money for it. Magali made her get a nose job and even though the surgeon told Magali she needed to rest, she forced her to do interviews. Drink coffee and red bull to wake her up from the anesthesia. Put chemicals in Ingrids hair that damaged it. She noticed a pair of her $275 earrings missing while packing but some time later they saw Magali on TV wearing them. Her parents took a pic and confronted her and she denied it but once shown the pic she acted shocked. In 2005 she was also sued by Miss PR for $2mil accusing her of fraud and lost of pageant related wages. As of 2009 Magali Febles lost the right to be director of Miss PR pageant but still is director of Miss DR and supposedly she may be losing her control over that franchise. Now all of a sudden she's the director of Miss Haiti? Why? How did this happen? who let that happen? Why is someone who is PR/DR the director? Man if it was going to be an insider I rather a French woman, at least that is the language of the country besides Creole. That is what doesn't make sense to me as that Hatian people would let that happen, but let's be honest, the people in that country let a lot happen, that's why the poverty level is extremely low. Its not like the country does not have potential. Its the people in the country who are corrupt. An American TV personality who just went to Haiti wrote about his visit and stated that so many things that were sent to Haiti are being held hostage at the ports. The things we sent to help our people are being held hostage by our own people who are greedy for money. And that's the other thing, Magali had motive and opportunity to milk this Miss Haiti thing b.c of the earthquake. I mean who doesn't feel sorry for the country? How many people will look at Miss Haiti at the MU pageant and just cheer and clap for her for the simple fact for the devastation the country has experienced. And Magali is no dummy. She's gonna take this as far as she can go and if she can easily rip off her own people (Miss PR) then I can easily see her doing the same thing to Sarodj. Sarodj's luggage was lost/stolen in Miami...from the stuff I've read about Magali iw ouldbe be surprised if she was behind that. So as for her doing any interviews in Creole, everything goes through her director and obviously she don't give a damn really about the Haitian people as a whole. Numerous telemundo interviews (although pageants are big amongts the Latin communities) and english interviews, one with a Haitian internet mag. I did see pics of her in Miami visiting kids in Little Haiti but other than that, Marjorie is the hand that controls Sarodj in this competition unfortunately.

  114. She is exceptionally beautiful and educated. We possess so many of her kind in Haiti. We need to stop the divisiveness and embrace this astounding young Haitian lady. It is not her fault that she is light skinned.

She seems to care immensely for Haiti; isn't that good enough that she is representing our beloved Nation. We need more people like her.

Please do not allow outsiders to contineously destroying Haiti/Haitians. With that said, Sarodj, may God be with you and guide you all the way!!! God bless Haiti!!! You are a TRUE Haitian, Sarodj. GO GIRL!!! By the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, you will win.

  115. Bruce well said. Forget about the beauty from the outside. She is exceptionally beautiful inside and so caring. If only someone here can actually meet her. Yes, we have all kind from Haiti dark, brown, yellow and white.

Sarodj Congrats and we applaud you. I hope you win.

  116. Oh BBBB, my dear B,
Silly ME, how could I not have realized this on my own??? It’s not my complexion, I’m just not as good looking and probably don’t deserve any better. I finally get it. Thank YOU, oh Enlightened One. Nevertheless, I assumed you were addressing me since you quoted me and spoke directly to a couple of things I said, but I will take your word for it if you insist otherwise and even apologize for the insults. However, I have to give up on you since you never fail to miss the point I’m trying to make. I totally get that you are defending your cousin, etc… It’s this wonderful world according to B deal that I’m having trouble with. It is beyond my comprehension that you claim to be completely oblivious to the phenomenon that I’ve suggested. You have diagnosed me as insecure and I’m not surprised. That is the typical defense people who take your position normally use. Our conclusions are always totally null and void. And not that I particularly care about that aspect of the debate, but of course you didn’t bring it up the issue first, MS. HAITI LOOKS LIKE YOU. What the hell do you have to complain about???? Then, I thought your next sentence was going to be “I have black friends”, HELLOOOO. C’mon what do you mean your ex was darker than you… You really thought that was worth mentioning??? And by the way, I never said I had a problem with men. I said they go for my fair friends usually. But don’t get it twisted now; I talk to plenty of men. However, I have been told by many black guys that they don’t do dark skinned girls, no matter how good looking because they are simply not attracted… Yeah right, such bull crap! Sounds to me like the white slave master who will not interact with the black slave, but he sure can rape her in the dark. Now would you rape someone you are not attracted to, over and over again? Hell, I have even been told, I’m soooo fine, if only I was lighter. But whatever, in one ear, right out the other. I’m over that nonsense. I have expressed this phenomenon that I have witnessed to my friends and for years they suggested that I had the problem until we started hanging out with some even lighter yet less attractive girls & they were receiving all the attention. Lol, think they didn’t change their tune??? Oh I think so… But it’s cool. I don’t need you to agree. And that’s ok. Cause if you are being dishonest in your claims of never witnessing such behaviors, maybe it’s because deep down inside you are really ashamed of it. And that’s a good thing because maybe we can somehow shame people into changing this mentality. On that note, I’m out.

  121. God bless you Sarodj.I am very proud of all you have represent about Haiti. Despite all obstacle, you have keep your spirit high and going strong, that's a true color of a haitian women. It could be easy after all that happen in your life to forget everything about Haiti. Sister, you make all haitian proud. And let me say in haitian (chapo ba) to your dad for raising such a beautiful and strong mind girl, and god bless your mother's soul. Keep going sis, we all watching, and very best of luck in your pursuing endeavour.

  122. How could you say this? I have met this young girl personally and she is such a great person. She did not cheat, look how beautiful she is in comparison to all the others! Haitians should really be grateful their is a miss haiti after 22 years of absencey instead of finding any excuse to not like her.

    ReplyDelete
  123. why complain about her color: Miss Ecuador, Nicaragua, Hondouras, and Norway are all black....what one wouldn't expect in these countries, if we let the ignorant opinions of the people who comment stand.. There are different shades of people and ethnic backgrounds in many countries...

  124. @Alicia
Must you degrade the others in order to make your point. Goodness gracious... Grow up!!!

    ReplyDelete
  125. Come on people She won because all the other ones were ugly. Miss Ecuador miss Honduras, miss Jamaica are beautiful women. 18-2-9-14-15 are not. They are what we call TET GRIDAP in Haiti

    ReplyDelete
  126. It was not a fair contest. Search for the history behind it Alicia. She may well be smart, beautiful and nice. And even probably would have won without all this charade, but they should have made this contest fair and square without her father on the panel. I'm just happy that all this madigrature is OVER

    ReplyDelete
  127. People. racismi is so rampant and alive. I can see it in all your comments. many of you are upset because this girl won. She is by far.. and I mean BY FAR the best lookiing of ALL the contestants. You can slap black paint on her body and cut her hair into an afro and she will still be HOT. Color has nothing to do with it. I thought Haiti would be well beyond such minor things as race by now. Obviously not. Again Sarodj was 100 times better lookiing , qualified and educated than any o the other contestants and color wa snot a factor. Sh ewas simply BETTER LOOKING PEOPLE!. God bless her. She shouldve taken teh Ms Universe crown and I'm not even haitian.

    ReplyDelete
  128. She is indeed the prettiest. I just criticized the way this "pageant" was conducted. The lack of integrity and honesty. Either way, yes she would have gotten the crown, so why not make it clean?

    ReplyDelete
  129. And may I add, why did they call those specific women for the contest under the banner of a casting call, and not other beautiful and intelligent women in Haiti? Those people presented themselves upon phone calls. Why was it just THEM? Think about it... The casting call was not advertised

    ReplyDelete
  130. Why are we still fighting over this?
Miss Universe was last night, and Sarodj didn't make the top 15.
    Now, move on....

  134. ok i am a mother of a light skinned Haitian child (a girl) with long hair ans kight eyes but she is black i"m black and her father is from Haiti born and raised. i think her being attractive has nothing to do with it she looks nice but the other young ladies are attractive too. She just happen to be the one that looks European that is why she won. Lets be real ok we but these images out and tell young girls its about the inside but we put all the light skinned female on TV and in magazines. and the message that we are sending is what.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Exactly! Thank you Amy for telling the truth as it is. the message that we are sending is that whiter is better. If we are as fair an impartial as we say then clearly this would not have happened. If you are "black" then too bad. It seems that da Nile also runs through Haiti.

    ReplyDelete
  136. mmmm she won? ok.. interesting. The obvious speaks for itself...

    ReplyDelete
  137. People, why are you all upset because a light skinned won? I am black and I have no problem with that. You black folks had the country in your hands for years now and nada positive was done. Now Michel Martelly is president I bet He will bring on board almost mostly mulate*. Didn't you guys ever learn Haitian history; both races were in Haiti at the same time. Blacks in north and light skinned were in south. Se fout bon pou nou, se ranse nou tap ranse avek peyi ya.
