Reggie Fils-Aime tells The New York Times “Our Business Is Doing Just Fine, Thank You Very Much”

The New York Times has run an informative piece titled Empty Shelves Signal Revival in Game Consoles. The article highlights the fact that the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are currently flourishing despite naysayers previously stating that the home console industry was dying due to the influx of tablets and smartphones. But the article also points out that the Wii U is seriously under performing compared to both next gen consoles. The publication interviewed Reggie Fils-Aime who simply told The New York Times that “Our business is doing just fine, thank you very much, despite the competitive launches.”

“It has been really amazing how disappointing it has been,” David Cole, an analyst at DFC Intelligence.


“They clearly need to take a real hard look at themselves and what they did,”

Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime says Nintendo targeting Wii U marketing to kids, families

Reggie Fils-Aime lays out holiday plan for latest console, says Nintendo experimenting with mobile experiences.

With the Xbox One and PS4 fighting over the core gaming crowd this holiday season, Nintendo is targeting its Wii U marketing elsewhere. In an interview with Seattle NBC affiliate King-5, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said the system is enjoying strong holiday momentum, thanks in part to a renewed and refocused marketing push.

"The marketing has tremendously ramped up," Fils-Aime said. "And really where it comes down to is being crystal clear in who's your target. For us, this holiday with the Wii U, the target is parents and their kids. So if you're watching primetime family entertainment, you're seeing our marketing. If you're a parent watching morning or daytime media, you're seeing our content."

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has honored the ‘fantastic launches’ of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Speaking during the VGX award show yesterday, Fils-Aime acknowledged that new hardware is what drives the video game industry, regardless of the manufacturer. The executive went on to say that although the newly released consoles from rivals boast powerful hardware, they need great games in order to survive in the long run.
