What’s next for Jean Pascal?
So what’s happening with former WBC light heavyweight champion and former Olympian Jean Pascal? He’s coming of a pretty impressive win against fellow Canadian fighter Lucian Bute back in January and at the age of 31 years old; he’s still in his prime. Of course, Bute is considered to now be a shot fighter after his disastrous performance against reigning IBF and WBA super-middleweight champ Carl ¨The Cobra¨ Froch, but it’s still a win against a well known, former champion of the world. I mean, you can say all you want about Bute, but guys like Gennady Golovkin and Sergey Kovalev are prime example of guys that have not fought this caliber of opponent in their career and are both considered top fighters in the business.
So to get back on topic, what are the options next for the flashy Pascal? He is definitely too heavy to fight at 168 pounds now. In one of his latest bouts against little known Aleksy Kuziemski in 2012, Pascal struggled badly to make the weight at 175 where he tipped the scale at 181 pounds, so there’s no way he can fight at 168 with his muscle mass. So what can he accomplish at light heavyweight? If we take a look at the current champions, there’s nothing for him until 2015. Current WBA champion Beibut Shumenov, which would have been the perfect opponent for Pascal, is set to face ¨The Alien¨ Bernard Hopkins for a unification bout. And even after that one, which will see Hopkins probably break his own record for oldest champion, I just can’t see him giving Pascal a 3rd fight. Then, there is Sergey Kovalev and Adonis Stevenson. But both are already booked for april and may and it wouldn’t surprise anyone that a clash between those two will happen for the end of the year in a big, fight of the year candidate, clash.

Top Canada boxers Pascal, Stevenson, Stiverne, Jean have Haitian connection
MONTREAL - Four fighters who represent the elite of Canadian pro boxing have one thing in common — all of them were born in Haiti.
With the top rank of the Canadian fight game now centred almost entirely in Quebec, it is that province's largest source of immigrants that has produced most of its recent boxing champions.
Adonis Stevenson is the reigning WBC light heavyweight champion, a title previously held by Jean Pascal, who will face Romanian-born Lucian Bute before an expected crowd of 20,000 in a non-title bout Saturday at the Bell Centre.
Dierry Jean is to face Lamont Peterson for the IBF light welterweight title on Jan. 25 in Washington, D.C., while Birmane Stiverne is waiting for a date and site to be announced for his clash with Chris Arreola for the WBC heavyweight title recently vacated by Vitali Klitschko.
All four were born in Haiti and moved with their families as young children to Montreal, where they took up boxing and were developed into world class fighters.
"Maybe their community was not high on hockey and other sports and was more focused on boxing," fight promoter Yvon Michel said Tuesday. "So we were privileged to get the people with the best genes for fighting.

Jean Pascal dominant in unanimous decision win over Bute
Jean Pascal dominated an unusually tentative Lucian Bute to win the battle of former world champions by unanimous decision in a non-title bout before 20,479 at the Bell Centre on Saturday night.
The decidedly pro-Bute crowd could do little to help their fighter, who appeared more concerned with not getting hit than with launching attacks.
One judge had it 117-110, another 117-111 and the third 116-112. The Canadian Press gave Pascal every round except the 12th, when he stood in a corner and absorbed punches knowing he had the bout won.
Pascal took Bute's minor NABF title and something called the WBC diamond belt, but more importantly, he bested his fellow Montreal fighter in their long-awaited showdown and made himself a player again in the light heavyweight division.

Lucian Bute vs Jean Pascal this Saturday on HBO in Montreal
This Saturday night Jean Pascal (28-2-1, 17 KO’s) and Lucian Bute (31-1, 24 KO’s) will be facing each other in an HBO televised fight from the Bell Centre, in Montreal, Canada. Pascal, 31, has fought only rarely since his loss to Bernard Hopkins in 2011. Pascal fought once in 2012 in beating Aleksy Kuziemski and once in 2013 in stopping 39-year-old George Blades. It’s been three years since Pascal had his last serious fight, and anything is possible when you have a fighter as rusty as Pascal is.
Pascal is getting Bute at the right time of his career with Bute having been stopped in the 5th round by Carl Froch in May of 2012, and having problems beating Denis Grachev in November of 2012. Bute didn’t look good in the Grachev fight, as he made what should have been an easy fight into a very tough one by fighting so timidly.
This allowed Grachev to stick around the entire fight and nail Bute with some big shots. Bute didn’t fight at all in 2013 due to a hand injury to his left hand. He was supposed to have fought Pascal last year, but the hand injury caused the fight to be postponed until this Saturday.

The Pride of Jean Pascal
Jean Pascal is a smart boxer. It also has a very good chin, a respectable speed, complicated style. But its main strength in his fight against Lucian Bute could be his heart. Jean Pascal is proud ... on social networks like a ring.
"I want to ride on the second ring."
We are in March 2013. Negotiations stretch to organize the biggest fight in the history of boxing in Quebec. Discussions stumble on some points.
At one point, we came close to disaster. Jean Pascal is two fingers to tweet the following: "The fight against Bute is off." But a call from promoter Lucian Bute, Jean Bédard, saves the day. It invites Pascal supper. The two men are talking about a steak. The fight is saved.
It is at this moment, when finally the whole affair seems determined that Jean Pascal will be his last request: "I want to get in the ring second."

Jean Pascal outclasses George Blades winning by 5th Round TKO
Former light heavyweight kingpin Jean Pascal dished out a thorough beating to veteran George Blades who, although outclassed, proved a tough nut to crack moments ago at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. Pascal came out strong at the bell and threw a whirlwind of leather at Blades who had little answer for the Canadian’s flashy offense. Pascal remained hard charging and really took it to Blades in the second where he ate a barrage of punishment. Pascal kept on punching and George took a prolonged beating before finally succumbing to a vicious combo in Round 5. The Laval charge landed a telling uppercut and right hand that decked his man and while Blades beat the count he was sent down twice more for good measure. With the violent win Pascal moves to 28-2-1 (17 KOs) and looks toward an early 2014 all-Canadian super-fight against fellow Montrealer Lucian Bute who was watching with interest from ringside.

Jean Pascal vs George Blades on September 28th in Montreal, Canada
By Allan Fox: The ring rusty Jean Pascal (27-2-1, 16 KO’s) has decided to slip in what should be an easy tune-up fight against 39-year-old journeyman George Blades (23-4, 16 KO’s) in a scheduled 10 round bout on the undercard of the Adonis Stevenson vs. Tavoris Cloud card on September 28th at the Bell Centre, in Montreal, Canada.
The Stevenson-Cloud, as good as it is, needed a decent co-feature bout to help attract interest from the Canadian boxing fans. While the Pascal-Blades fight is far from being a decent fight, Pascal’s name alone should be more than enough to attract a ton of Canadian fans to this event.
Pascal is already scheduled to face Lucian Bute on January 18th at the Bell Centre, but Pascal wanted to get a fight in before then to stay busy. Bute and Pascal were already supposed to have fought each other on May 25th, but Bute suffered a hand injury causing the fight to be postponed. Pascal has only fought once in the past 2 years, so it was important for him to get in another fight to keep the ring rust off.
