Naomi Campbell Is Going to Haiti

By Harold Emert In Rio De Janeiro, Brazil and Bill Hutchinson In New York

Naomi Campbell wants to see first hand where money from her own humanitarian group, Fashion for Relief, is being invested in the Haiti relief efforts.

The caustic covergirl, coming off a Manhattan meltdown that left her chauffeur battered and her bad reputation bolstered, is planning a humanitarian mission to the quake-ravaged Caribbean nation.

"I am not a humanitarian leader, but someone who wishes to improve the world in which we live," Campbell told the Brazilian newspaper O Dia.

She said she will travel to Haiti next month with White Ribbon, a philanthropic group founded by Sarah Brown, wife of British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

"I will be there after Easter to confirm first-hand the work of White Ribbon with women and children, and especially with 37,000 pregnant women who are facing extreme risk situations," Campbell said.

Her own humanitarian group, Fashion for Relief, has raised more than $1.5 million to help women and children devastated by the Jan. 12 earthquake in Haiti.

"I want to see first hand where the money is being invested," Campbell told O Dia columnist Bruno Astuto a week before her latest headline-grabbing blow up.

It was not clear Sunday if the long-legged, short-tempered diva's travel plans have been altered by her altercation Tuesday with driver Miodrag Mejdina. Her spokesman could not immediately be reached for comment.

Mejdina, 27, who is employed by Campbell's married boyfriend, Russian billionaire Vladimir Doronin, told cops he was attacked by the fashion icon as he was driving her to a Queens movie set.

Campbell bolted from Mejdina's Cadillac Escalade, setting off a brief police dragnet, when he called 911.

The driver later declined to press charges, claiming he "overreacted" to a "misunderstanding" and apologized to Campbell, a repeat graduate of anger management classes.

Campbell accepted the apology, saying, "I have worked very hard on correcting my pervious wrongdoings and I will not be held hostage to my past."

Her past includes assaulting a pair of British bobbies during a foulmouthed fit at Heathrow Airport in 2008, and a 2006 arrest for assaulting her Manhattan housekeeper with a jewel-encrusted BlackBerry.
