'Antony and Cleopatra' moves from Rome to Haiti

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - Antony and Cleopatra are moving from Rome to Haiti in a new adaption of William Shakespeare's tragedy by GableStage.

Directed by Miami native Tarell Alvin McCraney and playing at the Colony Theatre, the spin on "Antony and Cleopatra" is a collaboration between GableStage, New York's Public Theater, and London's Royal Shakespeare Company.

"We're calling it the theatrical experience of the season and I really don't think that that's an exaggeration," said Joseph Adler, the artistic director at GableStage. "I think it's something that going to really transform the theater scene here in South Florida."

Adler hopes the Caribbean flavor added to the classic draws big crowds.

"The costumes, the setting, the music, the movement -- it makes the play, I think, resonate even more for a South Florida audience," he said.
