WASHINGTON, USA (Reuters): The United States will provide $10 million in disaster aid to Haiti to help the Caribbean nation recover from three hurricanes, the White House said on Wednesday.

The impoverished country was hit by several massive storms in less than a month, including hurricanes Gustav, Hanna and Ike, which killed hundreds and flooded huge parts of the island.

"Our highest priority is to help deliver urgently needed relief supplies to communities which are now cut off from overland access," White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said. "Of this amount, $5 million is new funding pledged or programmed in the past week."

The aid will include relief supplies as well as help with damage assessments, transportation and logistics, she told reporters.
