The Government of Jamaica has collaborated with The World Bank, Microsoft, Government of Canada and several other partners for a new project tailored to empower young people in the Caribbean the ability to gain employment through digital means by launching a new project, Digital Jam 3.0: The Caribbean Edition.
The project features a number of programs, workshops and competitions aimed at providing the tools and measures necessary to help youngsters adjust to the faster and more evolved work world. These initiatives include an Apps competition, which aims to find the best young mobile developers in the region, determining the best concepts and designs for an app suitable for viable business ventures.
Additionally, there will be awareness workshops on micro-work and e-lancing opportunities, tips from motivational speakers, as well as a final event, set for March 1-2 2014 in Kingston. That event will showcase the finalists of the app competition.
According to organizers, the goal of Digital Jam 3.0: The Caribbean Edition is to encourage opportunities within the virtual economy and entrepreneurship by introducing young people to trends, success stories and other means to create jobs in an increasingly changing marketplace.
