Haiti names PM to rejoin investment panel with Bill Clinton

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) -- Haiti has named its prime minister to serve as co-chair on an investment panel with former U.S. President Bill Clinton.

The appointment of Laurent Lamothe to the Presidential Advisory Council for Economic Growth comes after his predecessor stepped down to focus on his family and its business. The resignation followed a bit of internal turmoil last year that included the dismissal of the executive secretary and layoffs.

Lamothe has already served as co-chair on the panel when it was created in 2011. He stayed on for a year.

The panel has a 33-member board that includes former heads-of-state, executives and a Nobel Laureate. It aims to bring outside investors to help create jobs in impoverished Haiti.

The prime minister's office made the announcement Thursday night.
