Jimmy Jean-Louis with former President Bill Clinton in Miami, Florida
Jimmy Jean-Louis is a lot more than an actor, he is a humanitarian. The Haitian born star who made his way into our homes and our hearts as the mysterious character "The Haitian" on the NBC show Heroes, is going to be honored during the Cannes Film Festival.
From tv hero to real life hero!
He is set to receive the Humanitarian award during the International Luxury Media’s 3rd annual Better World Awards’ Glitter and Glam Ball from fellow actor/humanitarian Sean Penn. The invitation-only, black-tie gala, cocktail reception and dinner is to take place at The Lotus VIP Club on Le Goeland Beach during France’s Cannes Film Festival on May 19th.
Jimmy has been actively fighting to improve the lives of his fellow Haitians since even before the devastating earthquake that ravaged the small country earlier this year. The aftermath inspired him to change the focus of his charity Hollywood Unites for Haiti, which originally aimed to provide sports and cultural education to underprivileged youth on the island.
The group said it mobilized for disaster relief after the magnitude-7 earthquake struck and now allocates 100 percent of its donations to helping Haitian citizens and raising global awareness of ways in which people can help.
“Haiti has suffered many setbacks in its rich history and yet the Haitian people have never lost the character to face adversity with creativity, resilience, and community,” Jean-Louis said in a statement. “I want to do everything in my power to comfort those who desperately need help and rebuild the country that I love.”
A big congratulations to Jimmy for the much deserved award!
