Haitian-American Andre Berto Wants Pacquiao, After Having Defeated Quintana

By Roy Luarca/ Philippine Daily Inquirer

MANILA, Philippines—Include Haitian Andre Berto to the list of Manny Pacquiao’s probable opponents.

After an eighth-round stoppage of Puerto Rican Carlos Quintana Saturday night in Florida, Berto and his promoter Lou DiBella joined the chorus for a showdown with Pacquiao.

“Now we want Manny Pacquiao,” DiBella told Leo Reyes of Digital Journal. “Whenever Manny wants to fight us, we are ready.”

Pacquiao is busy campaigning for a congressional seat in Sarangani province and does not intend to fight until November.

With the impressive victory, the 26-year-old Berto, who was supposed to fight Shane Mosley last Jan. 30 until he withdrew after a massive killer quake struck Haiti on Jan. 25, retained his World Boxing Council lightweight crown and stretched his unbeaten run to 26 with 20 knockouts.

Berto believes he can offer Pacquiao a stiffer challenge than Ghanaian Joshua Clottey, whom the Filipino turned into a virtual punching bag en route to a unanimous decision win on March 13 in Arlington, Texas.
