WFP Sends 60,000 Food Rations To Haiti

The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) sent 60,000 food rations to the hurricane victims in Haiti, WFP spokesman Elio Rujano told Xinhua Thursday.

Rujano said that the WFP staff Wednesday loaded about 31 tons of food, machinery and first-aid kits on a plane.

The aid materials were transported to Haiti under the cooperation of several humanitarian communities including Spanish Agency of International Cooperation for Development, the Deposit of Humanitarian Answer, and the Humanitarian Logistic Center of the Spanish Cooperation for Latin America, Rujano said.

It was the second plane of humanitarian aid that the WFP has sent to Haiti, where Storms Fay and Hanna, Hurricanes Gustav and Ike left more than 800,000 victims.

The first plane had already reached Haiti last week with four boats, several outboard motors and electricity generators aboard.

The WFP has so far distributed over 371 tons of food to more than 60,800 Haitian victims in the most-hit zones.
