TECH:Nokia N96 - Arriving In 2 Weeks In The UK

Nokia are soon launching their N96 mobile phone which is a step up in the N-series range of phones from the N95. The N95 was hugely successful and I suspect that the N96 will follow suit. From what we have heard, this phone will be available in just 2 weeks.

You may be wondering what is different about the N96 to it’s older brother, the N95. The N96 is not designed to replace the N95. However, it’s main goal is to bring everything that was good in the N95 and add a few extras such as mobile TV. The N96 has a 2.8? QVGA screen which runs at a resolution of 240 x 320 and can display up to 16 million colours. 16GB of internal memory is packed inside with the ability to use microSD which allows a further 8Gb of expansion.

A 5 megapixel camera with a Carl Zeiss lens takes crystal clear images. 5 megapixel is a step up from Apples smaller CCD, but not quite as many pixels as LG’s latest phone which boasts 8 megapixels… but from such a small lens you might not notice the difference between 5 and 8 to be honest. Smooth video playback is possible due to DPS and video acceleration chips that have been added to the phone. Recording video can be done at 30 frames per second.

Geo-tagging can be used in line with the camera allowing you to record exactly where a picture was taken so you can map out your photo’s in your journal. The geo-tagging function makes use of the built in GPS unit. On the connectivity side the phone is a quad band device which also supports WCDMA and HSDPA. Wireless is also built in which is to be expected on a good number of phones these days. The processor running this phone is a Dual ARM 9 running at 264MHz. It powers the Symbian OS 9.3 operating system.

Overall this phone is a powerful peice of kit and well worth looking in to should you want the mixture of wireless internet access with a good camera and excellent multimedia features.
