UN agency in Haiti begins food distribution amid drought

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) — A United Nations agency in Haiti has begun distributing food to help people cope with a severe drought.

Antoine Renard of the World Food Program said Thursday that aid workers have begun handing out cereal, vegetable oil and salt to 10,000 people in the northwestern part of the impoverished Caribbean nation.

Aid workers hope to reach 164,000 people.
