Police in Haiti make several arrests as detectives search for missing hotelier

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti - Several arrests have been made in the search for a prominent hotel owner in Haiti who remains missing, a police spokesman said Thursday.

Evinx Daniel, 58, was last seen on Jan. 5. Police on Saturday found his vehicle at a gas station outside the western port city of Gonaives.

Haitian National Police spokesman Gary Desrosiers said detectives have arrested several people, but he declined to give details because the case remains under investigation. He said Evinx's car has been taken to a courthouse, where it's being scoured for clues.

Daniel owns the oceanfront Dan's Creek Hotel in the southwestern town of Port-Salut, which is popular among foreigners. Florida public records show that he also owns several export businesses there.
