Victoria Duval qualifies for US Open Tennis 2013 main draw

Tennis - Haitian star Victoria Duval was among the 16 women who secured main draw berths at the US Open but 17 year old local hope Taylor Townsend went down in a three set heartbreaker.

19-year old Min, a former US Open junior champion, upset third seededAndrea Hlavackova 6-4, 6-1 to make it to the main draw for the first time in her young career. 17-year-old Duval,beat Tereza Mrdeza 6-3, 6-3, while Vandeweghe beat Nigina Abduraimova in three sets to make it to the main draw for the fifth time in her career.

Townsend, the junior world no. 1 in 2012, was up 5-3 in the final set against South African Channel Simmonds but failed to go through, losing the final set 5-7.

Also advancing into the main draw were former Wimbledon semi-finalist Mirjana Lucic-Baroni and Portugal's Michelle Larcher de Brito, who upset Maria Sharapova at Wimbledon.
