Nerlens Noel to wear No. 5 to recognize NBA teams that overlooked him

Haitian NBA prospect Nerlens Noel isn’t about to forget his NBA Draft night experience. The former University of Kentucky player plans to wear No. 5 during his rookie season with the Philadelphia 76ers, according to an ESPN report, to recognize the teams that passed on the one-and-done big man.

Noel’s draft stock slipped after the 6-foot-11 center tore his anterior cruciate ligament in February and missed the rest of his freshman season at UK. When the June 27 draft rolled around, Noel went as one of the night’s biggest snubs.

Finally, after names such as UNLV’s Anthony Bennett and Indiana’s Victor Oladipo fell off the board, the New Orleans Pelicans selected Noel sixth. Then the organization traded him to the 76ers, along with a first-round 2014 pick, for Jrue Holiday and this year’s 42nd pick.
