Wyclef Jean Picks Design For Music Studio Development in Cité Soleil

An American student has won a Royal Institute of British Architects international competition to design a music studio in Cité Soleil, Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on behalf of rapper and singer Wyclef Jean and his charity, Yéle Haiti.

Christopher Morgan from Virginia Tech University in the US, won the competition, which was sponsored by Allied London and John McAslan & Partners.

His “Broadcast Studio” design incorporates two performance spaces one opening towards the nearby park and waterfront and another enclosed space that connects to Radio Boukman, the local radio station.

The competition attracted 108 submissions and was launched before the January earthquake to help instigate micro-enterprise opportunities and job creation for at-risk youth.

Jean and his team, and John McAslan, selected the winners.
