The Costa Rica men's national soccer team beat Haiti last night 3-1, holding its place atop its World Cup qualifying group with a third straight win.

Despite four successive storms, including Hurricanes Ike and Gustav, that led to the deaths of at least 550 people in weeks prior, the game was played as scheduled on a water-logged field in the Sylvia Cator Stadium in Port-au-Prince.

Tico forward Bryan Ruiz drew first blood with a goal in the 12th minute, but Haiti responded with a goal in the 39th minute, and the two teams went into the halftime in a draw.

In the second half, the Haitians outscored La Sele, but only Tico shots found the net, as Ruíz notched his second goal in the 74th minute, and Alejandro Alpizar scored the game's most stylish goal on a cross that slid just over the keeper's hands and under the far upper V.

  1. Hi everyone
I just want to let this message for hatian FiFa soccer 2010 world cup. I think you need to keep watching how The ex haitan coach Garcia train his team and how he made this team confidence for overall. Haitian team now needs good coach like to go to the next phase or elliminate. The attack and defense are not appreciable and you got better players than Garcia had before. Why he made his team so good and we kept beating everybody becaus he knows how to prepare and organize. I hope you follw the same rules as Gracia help Haiti go foward and keep winning every match. When he was there we never scare Costarica and Salvador and remember we beat them easy. Now looking at us suffering because we don't have a good coach. Haitan people remember it is your fault. Thank you! How many times to tell you keep working hard on deffense and attack. Never let the players to see your goalie without a foul it's better than they made the goal. Can you litsten to me?
