Canadian Frigate Wraps Up Efforts To Support Humanitarian Aid In Haiti

OTTAWA - The defence department says a Canadian frigate is returning home after helping with relief efforts in storm battered Haiti.

HMCS St. John's supported the World Food Programme's humanitarian efforts. The Halifax-based warship's sailors and air-crew delivered more than 450 metric tons of supplies over a two week period.

The defence department says the ship's crew helped deliver rice, corn-soya meal, bottled water, water-purification tablets and other relief supplies.

The ship's Sea King helicopter delivered more than 300 cargo loads.

The ship is expected to be back in Halifax next week.
