Miss Haiti Universe 2010 Pageant Rigged?

Sarodj Bertin crowned winner of Miss Haiti Universe 2010 but there is talk of this pageant being rigged.

The Nouvelliste met Maritza Medjine Cottecheese Pierre and Pierre, two former Miss Videomax who come to experience what they describe as conspiracy, a nickname contest. Below is their testimony.

Haiti: Haiti: By Thursday night, it was 7 am 30, a young girl received a phone call from a lady, it's an invitation to participate in a casting, in preparation for a competition,''Miss Haiti 2010". It says''cast.'' A screening process to identify those who have to compete later to win the Sweepstakes and represent Haiti at Miss Universe in the U.S. in some time.

The girl is Maritza Medjine Pierre, winner of Miss Vidéomax in 2005. The lady is Magalie Racine, former organizer of the same competition. Maritza, on request Magalie Racine, gives the numbers of two other girls, potential participants: Cottecheese Peter, Miss Vidéomax 2006 and Gessica geneus, Haitian actress (Barikad, cousin etc.).

The Sunday after May 16, 2010, the three girls, or at least, two of them would arrive at the Ritz Kinam to 11am for the''cast''in which they were invited. According to Maritza, Magalie Racine, inviting the lady had to be there to translate for them and guide them in what must be a first contact with the organizers of the competition, they almost all Hispanic. But Ms. Root, no signs telling us Cottecheese and Maritza, and she does not deign to answer his phone. Later, she will say have had a major contract from 100 pages to read and sign, which has taken her time, according to two postulants.

Back to''cast.'' They are 17 girls (the majority having been contacted by Mrs. above) plus other Sarodj Bertin, beautiful and nice girl, the only one in any case to drag a suitcase with her, unlike other aspirants who have just their handbags. Note unimportant at first, but that would make any sense when the pieces are in place.

On arrival, they are asked to each take a number and once they pass before a jury virtually largely Hispanic, with exception of Jean Bertin, translator Member contest organizer and adviser to the Minister embassy Haitian in Santo Domingo and another Haitian. After many speeches and information on potential advertising contracts that could win the postulants, M. Bertin, Maritza and relate Cottecheese, asked to complete a blank sheet on which they register personal information such as age, education level, address e-mail, etc.. Then, always translating from Spanish to Creole, Mr. Bertin asked each donning a bikini, just to gauge their physical, always for any advertising contracts. They pass and are planted before the jury, all smiles, number belt. This has the air of a real cast far and nobody cares. They each raises a single question whose answer was wrong information on their age, educational level and current occupation, information that had already noted on the blank sheet, but, according to Mr. Bertin this was only to get an idea of their "vocal timbre''.

They begin to ask questions after, when we choose 6 of the 18 girls on these criteria alone and in less time than it takes to say. Cottecheese is eliminated, Maritza, number 9, is called the first and Sarodj Bertin, last, as if no one had remembered her at the last minute. During this time, Sarodj tell us Maritza and Cottecheese, told anyone who would listen how much she was stressed and panicked.

The six finalists chosen will now change and donned bikinis made by the organizers. Redéfilé. Still without understanding of what is happening as they are assessed on any particular theme and show no talent that allows them to differentiate themselves from each other.

While they were still standing before the jury in a bikini and high heels, hand on hip, Magali Febles (not root!), A Dominican living in Puerto Rico and with modeling agencies both in Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic to Miami, was accompanied by another member of the jury, the only Haitian and Mr. Bertin to come and read the results of the contest was ''Miss Haiti in 2010.'' Yes, indeed, it took 2 hours and 30 minutes (no less!), And no assessment of intelligence or talents of 18 young girls to describe that which is most suitable to represent Haiti in 2010 and Miss Universe Winning is Sarodj Bertin, none other than the daughter of the minister, translator and member of the contest organizer, Jean Bertin, said one of the aspirants who wants to remain anonymous. The ''2010'' Miss Haiti was crowned by Eva Arias, Miss Dominican Sarodj returned home with the rest of the group. Nothing is stopping that, and based on what we have reported the complainants, there is a bias because one of the organizing members is both judge and party.

One would think that this is not a Miss Haiti, but Miss Island. Better, Maritza and Cottecheese denounce the fact that a competition of this magnitude has been no publicity in the country, it has not extended throughout the car, of course, Haiti is divided into several departments and, finally, the Ministry of Culture is aware of any such activity. Moreover, in this regard, ministry officials have encouraged victims, according to Maritza Peter, to complain against the Haitian and foreign organizers by letter, with supporting evidence. Worse, the two former Miss Vidéomax are appalled to have each received an envelope containing a whopping 300 and 350 water bottles, cold comfort and premium-casting contest. Of course, the 50 most water bottles are to mark the difference between the fifth finalist (Maritza) and postulant eliminated in the first round (Cottecheese).

On Yahoo, the organizers claim that they wanted to help Haiti in trouble and the girls all slept in tents, which is an invention of its kind since no question they have not been raised, according to the girls. And anyway, 300 or 350 bottles can not be a big help. Unless of course, their photos and videos in bikini from Yahoo, Google, CNN, Tele del Mundo, YouTube, London newspapers, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic without their consent, do not contribute to that assistance'' fictitious''.

In any case, the victims do not intend to remain silent and ignore what they call a scam. "''I wonder how foreigners come as Haiti and do what they want without being accountable to anyone. Who authorizes? Would question Maritza Pierre. At Miss Universe, will represent the Haitians Sarodj Haiti, but also those in the diaspora. It should not take this lightly. We want the truth to come out and stop this abuse. We are not accusing anyone in particular, however, we denounce the system operation that allows people who have credibility in Haiti (in collusion with foreigners) and take advantage of young girls who actually fought for a better future and for rebuilding their country. Many of us have won or nobly represented the country in competitions elsewhere. Again, we do Pointon any fingers, but if the accuser of individuals, their knowledge. We advocate a rule of law, it must be effective, these machinations do not happen again, that all Haitians together, we unite in honesty and respect for a real and effective reconstruction. A reconstruction first in the minds and the country subsequently concluded'''', Miss Vidéomax the summer of 2005.

Cottecheese Peter continues along the same lines:''''I expect that by this article, the organizers are aware of the seriousness of this plot. Sarodj Bertin is beautiful and cultured, she could have won this competition to represent Haiti with pride. But it would have been necessary, as all those who will be Miss Universe, she has competed. To win without effort is to triumph without glory. It is inhuman to trample the personality and dignity of young girls who were severely beaten and become respectable citizens. It would be wise to revise the error''''.

I''''I have not participated in the casting-competition for the simple reason that I never had the ambition to be Miss, the actress confesses Gessica geneus. I clearly said to Magalie Racine when she contacted me. But this is not the only reason I was suspicious from the start because I asked lots of questions to Magalie what kind of company organizing the competition etc.. But she was unable to answer me and told me that I know locally, while specifying that I was just a first date, it was not the competition. It seemed fishy. Maritza and I support Cottecheese, because you have found a solution and stop. For me it's nothing but a girl trafficking, an outrageous use of them. This is not the first time they do this, but here it has to be known and that it cease. You can not teach patriotism to people, but respect the other is the minimum. You can not use people as dishonest way, "says the actress Barikad. It's hard to find we still dark-skinned settlers in Haiti''''.

Magalie Racine, meanwhile, denies having been aware of the history and argued in these terms:''''I am not a member organizer of the contest, however, there was no contest. I was contacted for a casting not a contest, that is why I appealed to girls qualified, in my view could worthily represent Haiti has the outside. I have no idea of the selection criteria of the organizers. I appealed to these young girls to attend a cast that would precede a contest. To my knowledge, the 2010 Miss Haiti itself has not yet occurred, there was a casting''''.

  5. Why do you think it was un-announced?

  6. It seems Sarodj Bertin was the intended winner from the start when you look at all the evidence but I still ask WHY? WHY Miss Haiti Universe 2010? WHY now? WHY her? There are alot of unanswered questions and unconfirmed statements so I'll set aside my judgment until I hear it from Sarodj Bertin or there's some concrete evidence. The evidence is mounting against Sarodj but im unsure about all this?

  7. Miss Haiti is already chosen. No matter how she got to win the competition, it is not the right time for maritza and Cottecheese to go aroung trying to catch people' attention just because they were not picked. If we all pay close attention, we can all see that these two ladies are just jealous and self-centered. They care only about themselves, their own interests rather than Haiti itself. if our dear country, Haiti, meant something to them, they would react differently. They would put the country first. How immature they are! I understand their point that the competition was not handled fairly. But they should grow up and say to themselves: Now it's all about our country but not about us. if they really wanted to lift up Hiti's face after all that it had been through recently, had one of them been the winner,Maritza and Cottecheese would put aside all their frustrations, jealousy, envie, egoism to back up Sarodj wishing her to do the same. To my great suprise, all they are trying to do now is to boycott everything. These two young women are doing all they can to turn all the attention and support that Sarodj is suppose to get to themselves. This can negatively affects her performance at the world contest if she does not receive the support, the attention, the love she now deserves from her own people. This is sickining and very sad! I would ask the haitian media or press to stop
promoting these negativities, instead to encourage all of us to stand by our Miss.

  8. The reason why Miss Haiti is not on the Miss Universe website is because those are the contestants from Miss Universe 2009 lol Imbecile lol

    ReplyDelete
  9. "Imbecile" isn't necessary but you are correct there are 2009 contestants, we apologize and have resolved the issue. As you know we are a volunteer and user based site but we still take what we post seriously.

The interview was conducted by "Nouvelliste" a reputable Haitian news organization, with two former Miss Videomax's who participated in what they were told was a "casting" for a sweepstakes not a pageant competition. Now can we just believe their statements without any factual evidence no but no one else involved has spoken out to deny these claims or brought evidence to make use think any different. The way in which the "pageant" was conducted was shady at best and was not public knowledge until the winner was first announced by Yahoo.fr so what are we to believe.

As it pertains the photo of the "2009 Miss Universe" contestants, it was submitted to us by a MyAyiti.com viewer stating the fact that Ms. Sarodj Bertin has not been posted on MissUniverse.com and the same information had been confirmed by other viewers so we posted it.

If this was not a volunteer and user based website we would have the funds to pay a large professional staff to properly verify what is submitted to MyAyiti.com but since we don't we verify our information through multiple reputable source links submitted by our viewers. So we are as knowledgeable as any other major media outlet, when they are misinformed we are as we rarely do independent research unless it is an interview conducted by ourselves or as you "Michelle" give us reason to through posting comments.

  18. i would like before you post any information on your site, please verify for credibility. i would ask you again to support our Miss and help others to do the same. Doing otherwise won't solve any problem. It will make thing worst. And we sure don't need that; not now.

  19. As I said before we are as knowledgeable as any other major media outlet such as FOX, MSN, CNN, etc, when they are misinformed we are as we rarely do independent research unless it is an interview conducted by ourselves or we are asked to by one of our viewers.

Since we are a volunteer and user based website unlike a global media outlet we don't have the funds to pay a large professional staff to independently verify what is submitted to MyAyiti.com but since we don’t WE VERIFY OUR INFORMATION THROUGH MULTIPLE REPUTABLE SOURCE LINKS such as YAHOO, GOOGLE, FOX, MSN, New York Times, etc. submitted by our viewers.

This is the first time an incidence such as this has occurred since MyAyiti.com's inception when it was first named Haiti Nation on MySpace.com back in 2003.

Also our mission is not to support or not support a Haitian individual, a group, a organisation, etc but to LAYOUT ALL VIEWPOINTS WHETHER POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE, as you can see there is an informative post on Ms. Sarodj Bertin's Miss Haiti Universe 2010 crowning as well as a video and lastly a post on some irregularities in how the Miss Haiti Universe 2010 pageant was conducted.

With no disrespect, if you would like opinions on the issue that is what comments are for as you have given yours many others will give theirs.

  21. Everyone would like to be behind Miss Haiti Universe 2010, Sarodj Bertin, but the process in which she was crowned is of great concern. The ends does not justify the means, I and I believe you as well are proud the Miss Haiti Universe pageant is back after 21 years but we as a people have to have some type of honor in how we do things, we need to have not only respect for ourselves but for others because we are all part of the same struggle and I believe the most you can or should do for someone is give them equal opportunity regardless of gender, color or background.

The cream will always rise to the top, no pun intended as Ms. Bertin is light skinned, in a even competition and from my perspective after seeing all the other contestants Ms. Bertin would have won anyway but saying that I would still have issue with how the Miss Haiti Universe 2010 pageant was conducted in what some say secrecy until announced on Yahoo.fr

Also our mission is not to support or not support a Haitian individual, a group, a organisation, etc but to LAYOUT ALL VIEWPOINTS WHETHER POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE, as you can see there is an informative post on Ms. Sarodj Bertin’s Miss Haiti Universe 2010 crowning as well as a video and lastly a post on some irregularities in how the Miss Haiti Universe 2010 pageant was conducted.

  23. You have problems. Why can't you get this through your head. The girl won and that 's final. She will be representing Haiti. Why can't you just be proud, we haven't sent any one since like forever to the Miss Universe. What would you suggest to do?

    ReplyDelete
  24. This has nothing to do with jealously. To call someone jealous in the face of unfairness is really low.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I wouldn't go so far to call her a half-breed cow, but she is a cheater. She cheated her Haitian sisters out of a great opprotunity. That is unforgiveable. I don't care if her father set it up they were both accomplices in this so-called "casting"

    ReplyDelete
  26. C'est un scandale. Il faut que ça cesse. I thought people will learn a lesson from the earthquake that struck Haiti. I thought they were going to stop with the practices they used to do right before the earthquake. Like this farce, this fraudulent contest that the outcome was known beforehand. I am not going to support anything that is not correct neither take pride in anything that doesn't preserve an aura of respectability and competition. As far as I know Miss Universe Organization generally prefers national pageants, which is not the case for Sarodj.

  27. to all the people who believe this and are actually mad for the possibility of this being rigged and ciderkiss i will apologize because you have proven me that you are not on this talking because of skin color.. rig contest is the guy who i mistaked you for.. we fight about skin color and are against each other so much that it takes a toll on me... whos to say that this post isnt some bullshit to begin with tho? it may be the writing of someone like 'rig contest' who is just showing hatred because of skin color.. i may be wrong.. but whoever wrote this article definitely should not be writing in english.. because there are so many errors in this that i cant even understand half of it and i speak and understand english fluently.. if anything put it in kreyol to make me believe it more.. i question it because this is the only site that is calling it a scam.. and if all the sources that are listed in this article claiming this to be the truth about it being a 'casting' the people that claimed that wouldve blogged about it elsewhere.. google it and this is the only site that claims it.. im not biased towards ms bertin.. but if all that has been posted is true they should and will have a CONTEST because of the people claiming this to be a casting.. time will tell.. more proof to me that i feel the majorities dont like this because of skin color.. on another note.. why fight each other when there are websites like http://www.chimpout.com/ on line bashing everyone of color.. we need to stick together..

    ReplyDelete
  28. ok i will eat my words.. again.. lol.. i was typing in scam in google.. i typed in tigged this time and a lot more popped up.. but still if it is the truth then they will do the contest if the people named agree that it was a casting.. i apologize again.. im just happy to see a miss haiti..

  30. you know what all these people that are talking about this beautiful lady need to look at themselves for once and put themslevs in her position i bet if you guys were all getting comments from random people talking trash to you , you wouldn't like it at all . And Jesus Christ does not like when people judge others. So if you have nothing nice to say at all please do not say it all ! Cause my my Lord Jesus Christ doesn't approve of these horrible judgement's please respect it. And look im only 13 years young and im writing all of this just because immature people are judging this beautiful daughter of our lord God ! may God bless this beautiful young lady and miss haiti i dont know you but do not feel low on yourself because all these others are talking about you just be happy because the savior of all of us Jesus Christ and the Father God loves you soo much !! okay ? :)
God bless you . And God bless all the others who were judging you . Amen :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. She is being judged fairly. The pageant was rigged in her favor by her father. She does not deserve the title. She has also represented the Dominican Republic. Everyone has the right to trash this trash. Stop taking crumbs, and do better. If you give the devil an inch he will take a mile.

    ReplyDelete
  32. If Sarodj becomes Miss Universe and then they find out about this scam. How will that make us look? Not good. Haitian already have a BAD track record for deception. Now that she is in the contest the vultures from the other nations are going to pick her apart, and she deserves it.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Sadly I don't have the money to run my own pageant, but that is what sponsors are for. Just because she has money does not give her the right to buy the national crown.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ok, let's say this is legit and it's fraud, I wonder if everyone including the contestants would make such a stink if Sarodj was of a darker complexion? If this is about fraud then let it be about that but when people keep bringing up the fact that she's light skin....I mean come on already. Which one is it? The fact her dad was a judge or that she's lighter? Bc I very much so believe if she was darker, skin complexion wouldn't even be a topic. But since she's light skin let's throw that in there too b/c its so unfair! Hmmph!

    ReplyDelete
  35. If Sarodj was darker we wouldn't even be debating this because she would be out as soon as we can blink an eyelash. Dark skinned women never get a pass. Don't act like you don't know.

  37. This girl is not Haitian. She is also representing the Dominican Republic. We need to start carefully screen our beauty contestants. We need to see real Haitian Women, not Spanish women, who is saying their Haitians.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Well isn't ignorance just bliss. Do you not know her story? Obviously not otherwise you wouldn't say she's Dominican. Do yourself a favor and google her mother Mireille Durocher Bertin, a HAITIAN attorney that was murdered during Aristede's reign b/c of her voval opposition of him. Sarodj's father then took her and her siblings and fled to DR which he was trying to do before his wife was killed. So she spent the rest of her life growing up in DR. While you're at it google Denny Mendez, a BLACK DOMINICAN who moved with her mom to Italy as a youngster for a better life (hmmm sounds like Sarodj's story) and she became Miss Italy. And let's not forget our own Miss USA in this years pageant Rima Fakih who is a Muslim from Lebanon...moved to the US with her family at a young age and omg now she's Miss USA!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Slight typo-Vocal* opposition

    ReplyDelete
  40. Yes, I read all about her history and although it is sad, The way the pageant was done was unfair. The judges were not all Haitians. This is how all countries does it. a Haitian woman would have never been able to win a competition in the Dominican Republic the way she did. My opinion is my own right and many agrees with me. iT wasn't a competition, the other Haitian girls had no chance. Thank God I am in America and I can excersize my right to an opinion.
The decision was rigged! It is obvious!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ok, I'm not arguing the fact that you are saying the competition was unfair because of the way it was being handled. You can have your opinion. The only opinion you stated was that she was Spanish when she is not. She can "pass" for one because of her looks. I was only stating facts when I replied back. And you are right that not any other Haitian would be able to be Miss DR, but in DR they don't like their own dark skin people. There wouldn't even be a darker toned Miss DR if they had anything to say about it. At my cousins hair salon they sell a lightening cream (Dominican Salon).

  42. how do you know that she cheated?

    ReplyDelete
  43. how do you know she cheated?
if she really that's bad, but this question of dark or light skin does not make any sense because the ethnicity of haitian is very diverse.
do you know that people from fond-des-blancs have the same color and even lighter.
come on this question of color does not make sense in such mixed nation. haitians are a mixture of african, french, hispanic and so on.

    ReplyDelete
  44. if she cheated that's not good. but how can u know she cheated. we can complain about cheating but not about her skin because haitian are a nation of diverse color. Do you forget that people from fond-des-blancs have light skin( sometimes even lighter). i have some cousin that are really light( haitian grimelle) do you forget that haitian are a mixture of african, french, spanish and so one. come on, talking about cheating is a serious problem but about her color does not make any sense because we know that our nation has people with diverse color.

  45. Look guys, this world which we leave in is built on lies and manipulations. And sometimes it's not so much the lie, but the intention behind the lie. For instance, we lie to our kids about Santa Claus to make behave, with the promise of getting a gift.
We get lies from our pastors, politicians, teachers, etc. I'm not justifying it. But in a world mired by deception you can only be so righteous. Besides, if Sarodj wins and helps out our people, then the end justifies the means.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Correction: I meat to say live in, not leave in.

Anyway, as long as the Miss Universe people don't say anything, then let's leave it that.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I understand their frustration and it's their right to express it. I've been in rigged contests before. Nonetheless, I think that now is not the right time to voice their complaint, as it's not gonna change anything. It's better to get behind the national represent. Moreover, I think Sarodj's personal story is more compelling and inspirational.

    ReplyDelete
  48. We are not children and white lies hurt us eventually because they are still lies. The end does not justify the means because lots of Haitian women missed the opprotunity of a lifetime. That is un-forgive-able. This isn't going to help Haiti as much as it's going to help Sarodj and HER family. Be real. We are not children.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Apparently you did NOT read the other story posted on this site. Go check it out and get back to us.

    ReplyDelete
  50. ONE QUESTION FOR YOU? ALL OF THE OTHER MISS UNIVERSE CONTESTANTS SPEAKS THEIR COUNTRY'S LANGUAGE, HOW IS SHE THE BEST TO REPRESENT HAITI, WHEN SHE DOESN'T EVEN SPEAK THE LANGUAGE? HAITI NEEDS SOMEONE WHO IS EDUCATED AND FLUENT IN OUR LANGUAGE. IT WAS SAD WHAT HAPPENED TO HER MOTHER AND HOPE SHE CAN FORGIVE HAITI'S CRUEL POLITICAL PRACTICE BUT I THINK THAT THE TITLE SHOULD HAVE GONE TO A HAITIAN WOMEN WHO IS QUALIFIED. HAITIAN WOMEN LIKE MY COUSINS IN HAITI WHO IS FLUENT IN FIVE LANGAUGES AND THEY DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS COMPETITION. SHE IS BEAUTIFULL AND THE OTHER GIRLS COULDN'T COMPETE WITH THAT BUT SHE IS NOT QUALIFIED IN MY VIEWS. I HAVE BEEN PAGEANTS AND THERE ARE RULES AND IN AMERICA SHE WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO RUN FOR MISS AMERICA, IF SHE WAS BORN IN AMERICA AND IF SHE DIDN'T SPEAK ENGLISH. OTHER HAITIAN WOMEN MISSED OUT ON A VERY BIG OPPORTUNITY AND THEY OWE THEM THAT OPPORTUNITY BIG TIME. LET'S SEE NEXT YEAR! IT SEEMS LIKE EVERYTHING IN HAITI IS CORRUPT.

    ReplyDelete
  51. You "grown-ups" accept lies from your pastors, politicians, and teachers when it's convenient and makes you feel good. Besides the pageant comes every year, the other girls could tryout next year.

  52. In case you haven't read, Sarodj speaks creole, french, english, and spanish. She was born in Haiti, but had to leave the country at age 9 due to her mother's assassination. (Go look up Mireille Bertin Durocher) Because she lived in D.R. for some time, she often speaks spanish. Just like young Haitians (perhaps like yourself) who came to America for similar reasons often speak english--like we're doing right now!!!

SHE'S A HAITIAN WOMAN, NO LESS THAN THOSE OTHER GIRLS!!!

  53. My question is why is Magali Febles the director of the Miss Haiti Franchise when she's Puerto Rican/Dominican????? Why wasn't a Haitian woman in charge of the country's pageant? Who let that happen. Everyone is getting on Sarodj but she isn't the one who is charge of the pageant. It's not like there was never a Miss Haiti before and of course with trying to help people after the earthquake, the pageant probably wasn't on many peoples mind. But let's let an outsider come in and reap the benefits of the earthquake. That woman is corrupt. She has kept money from other constestant's, stole from them, and has been sued. That's why she lost the ability to direct Miss PR as of last year. But she sure jump on the opportunity to have a Haitian represented. It was perfect. She already controls DR, sees a a Haitian girl living there who can be of pageant material, the world feels sorry for Haiti right now so she cashed in on this one. Instead of attacking Sarodj and writing Miss Universe, people need to find out what's going on in Haiti and how they ALLOWED for this woman to direct Miss Haiti.

  55. Dee, let's get that out of the way the USA is not Haiti and I am so tired of people keep on compare the two countries. And please don't put the Haitian women down and that's including you. Because, the judges were not Haitians, therefore the unable to comprehend beauty and see beauty. By the way, Miss Universe competition on Sunday has no Haitian judge. Stop bashing the whole thing, just for once support something for Haiti.
We need the best to represent us, it is not about just beauty, it's about someone that can express themselves from the international stage, give the whole thing a break and also use the system in a way you can win. This win is for Haiti, just this time. Please, support her.

  57. Thanks for the compliment.

Like you said: even if you don't like how she got to where she's at now, at least support Miss Haiti for what she represents--or better yet, who she's representing. You and your friends can show Sarodj some love by voting for her. Here's how:

    1. Log on to www.missuniverse.com
    2. Register
    3. Miss Universe will send you an email with an activation link
...4. Activate your account by clicking on the link and login
    5. Click on CONTESTANTS and vote by clicking on the ratings stars.

The pageant will air Monday August 23rd, on NBC and Telemundo at 9-11PM ET.

  58. No, if Sarodj wins, only she will be helped out; our people will benefit from nothing. Be real! I am in my early 50s, born and raised in Haiti. I have to tell you that I can't remember one Miss Haiti pageant that a dark-skinned, short-haired girl has ever won. It's ridiculous. This is the same mentality that allows foreigners to fare a lot better in our own country than we do. I was listening to a newsreport on NPR some time ago explaining how Haitian patients at a makeshift hospital after the earthquake only wanted to be seen by the white doctor, and not by the Haitian doctor. We have got to stop doing that to ourselves. The Rush Limbaughs and Pat Robertsons of the world are doing enough damage already. Just stop it.

  59. I'm sorry Mrs. Pierre, are we talking about same thing here. I thought we were discussing the legitimacy of the Miss Contest, not skin tone and hair texture. Have you googled or follows blog comments about Sarodj online. It's incredible that people can't believe she's Haitian because (according to them), she's too pretty. They perceive Haitians based on the dark-skinned peasants they see in the media. So Sarodj is showing a different shade and (by most perceptions) a more elegant side of Haiti. Even if she's part of a minority, but then again, so does Miss Jamaica; Miss America and Phillipines are Arabic; Miss Nicaragua is Black.

As Sarodj only helping herself is she wins... can you be any more ungrateful!!!

Let's go over the facts. Her mother was killed by our government while defending our rights. Her family had to flee for their safety to D.R. Now that she's all grown she's helping with the International Alliance for Haiti's Recovery (look it up on Wikipedia). Moreover, she wants to give back to the same country that took her mother away, by being its first Miss Universe delegate in 22 years--not to mention restoring its pride and self-esteem after January 12. We last time we won any major 'international competition' was in 1804.

I'm assuming that you're a dark-skinned Haitienne--and I'm sure you're beautiful in your own right. But, if you're looking to make a statement for women of your complexion, try waiting next year. Or you can support Miss Nicaragua or Miss Tanzania just to make you feel good.
