Where the world's unsold cars go to die

In the past several years, one of the topics covered in detail on these pages has been the surge in such gimmicks designed to disguise lack of demand and end customer sales, used extensively by US automotive manufacturers, better known as "channel stuffing", of which General Motors is particularly guilty and whose inventory at dealer lots just hit a new record high. But did you know that when it comes to flat or declining sales and stagnant end demand, channel stuffing is merely the beginning?

Israeli extremist tries to remove Palestinian flag, gets caught on barbed wire

A settler became tangled in barbed wire after he climbed on to the roof of a Palestinian apartment building in Hebron to remove two Palestinian flags, as seen in a video published on YouTube by B’Tselem.

The incident last Saturday began when a bearded settler, wearing Shabbat clothing – black pants, a white shirt and a large white skullcap – set up a wooden ladder and climbed up it.

He tried to scale a wire fence around the roof of a Palestinian home next to Beit Hadassah, a Jewish apartment complex, in an area of the city under Israeli military control.

Shadi Sidr, one of the Palestinian home owners and a volunteer for the Israeli NGO B’Tselem, filmed the incident. The video opens as the settler, breathless from the climb, gets caught on barbed wire woven into the fence.

Ciara welcomed a baby boy into the family early this morning.

Ciara has been showing off her very large belly lately, and it was finally time for her to deliver very early Monday morning. According to the NY Post, Future's fiancee gave birth to a baby boy in Los Angeles in the wee hours of the morning.

Ciara and Future announced their engagement this past October, and the singer followed it up with the announcement of her pregnancy in January. This is Ciara's first child, while it's Future's fourth. The rapper already has three children from previous relationships.

The couple and new parents are expected to tie the knot in the Fall. Ciara recently posted an image of her child's all-white nursery on Instagram, which you can take a look at in the gallery above. She's also been sharing a ton of preggo pictures on her IG some of which are featured above as well.

Ciara took to Instagram to reveal the name of her new baby with Future, who was born earlier today. She also included an image of his arm for posterity.

The baby is named after his father. Ciara captioned the image, "FUTURE ZAHIR WILBURN 9lbs 10oz May 19 2014."

Video: Stars and Stripes burn in Haiti anti-US protest // RT Ruptly

Anti-government protesters took to the streets of Port-au-Prince, Sunday, to mark the 211th anniversary of Haitian Flag Day and denounce the US' involvement in the country's political and economic affairs.

Protesters gathered in the Bel Air district before marching through the streets calling for President Michel Martelly's resignation. Demonstrators also set fire to a piece of material with stars and stripes print, shouting "Obama should not have supported this government."

The protesters tried to reach the area near the National Palace but were blocked by a police cordon.

Adonis Stevenson vs Andrzej Fonfara on May 24th at Bell Centre, Montreal, Canada

By Allan Fox: WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson (23-1, 15 KO’s) will be defending his title against #1 WBC Andrzej Fonfara (25-2, 15 KO’s) on May 24th at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada. The fight isn’t the one that fans want to see, as they prefer to see Stevenson face WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev or IBF champion Bernard Hopkins. But it looks like Stevenson isn’t in a hurry to take the fight against Kovalev, so it could be a year or more before that fight takes place, if ever.

Stevenson makes good money just defending his titles against guys like Fonfara and Tony Bellew, and it’s not as important for him to take on a dangerous opponent that could potentially send him back into the contender ranks where the money is less.

The Stevenson-Fonfara fight could be shown on Showtime rather than HBO, which is good for a lot of fans who already have that cable network. For fans who don’t have Showtime, I’m not sure that a Stevenson v. Fonfara bout is a big enough one for them to subscribe to Showtime. The fight is more of a stay busy mismatch for Stevenson along the same lines as his recent slaughter of Tony Bellew last November.

This will be Stevenson’s third title defense of his World Boxing Council 175lb title he captured last year in June in halting Chad Dawson in the 1st round. In his first defense, Stevenson destroyed former IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud by a 7th round TKO win last year in September. Following that win, Stevenson defeated Bellew by a 6th round TKO.

Video: Haiti protesters crash Martelly presidential anniversary // RT Ruptly

Protesters descended upon Haiti's capital of Port-au-Prince on Wednesday as the country's leadership marked the third anniversary of President Michel Martelly's election, calling for his departure. Demonstrators marched through various neighbourhoods, accusing the leader of corruption and claiming he is not eligible to lead the county.

Protesters attempted to reach the area near the National Palace where Martelly was commemorating the anniversary with a street party, but were turned away by police barricades and riot-control officers who used tear gas to disperse them.

Demonstrators responded by burning tyres in the streets and smashing car windows. Some injured individuals were seen on the ground, though the official confirmation of arrests and injuries was unavailable.

Bermane Stiverne becomes first Haitian born world heavyweight boxing champion

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Bermane Stiverne stopped Chris Arreola in the sixth round Saturday night to claim the WBC heavyweight title vacated by Vitali Klitschko.

Stiverne (24-1-1, 21 KOs) dropped Arreola twice in the sixth, and the Haitian-born fighter was punishing Arreola again when referee Jack Reiss stopped the fight with 58 seconds left in the round.

The Klitschko brothers had held every major heavyweight title for the past six years. Vitali's retirement into Ukrainian politics in December opened the WBC belt for the 35-year-old Stiverne, a late bloomer who hasn't lost in 13 consecutive fights.

"I studied and studied," Stiverne said. "I watched my opponent. I knew I could knock him out. ... I was patient. The plan was to let him get comfortable, and he soon as he gets real comfortable, then crack him. And that's what I did."

Stiverne dropped Arreola (36-4) for the first time with a sweeping right hand to Arreola's left temple, sending Arreola wobbling and crashing to the canvas. Arreola rose and kept fighting, but Stiverne put him headfirst into the ropes moments later with another combination.

After Reiss stopped the fight, Stiverne wept with the WBC's green belt around his shoulder at the Galen Center on USC's downtown campus.

Ecuador says USAID must leave by end of September

Ecuador has called for the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to leave the country by the end of September.

In a letter obtained by the Associated Press on Thursday, Ecuador’s government told the USAID that it “must not execute any new activity,” nor widen any existing projects in the country.

The letter, dated November 26, 2013, was signed by Gabriela Rosero of Ecuador’s international cooperation agency and was sent to the US Embassy in the Ecuadorean capital of Quito.

The letter was reportedly addressed to USAID program officer, Christopher M. Cushing.

Rosero said that the USAID must pull out by September 30, and that “the decision has been made.”

Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa suggested in December that the USAID's programs were no longer welcome in Ecuador, saying on one of his regular Saturday programs on television and radio that "we don't need charity."

Obama prepares to smash BRICS during his last few years in office

The buildup of NATO air and ground forces along the borders of Russia in eastern Europe and President Barack Obama’s American power-influencing trip to Asia have a single purpose. The seen and unseen forces who dictate policy to their political puppets in Washington, London, Paris, Brussels, Berlin, and other vassal capital cities have decided to smash BRICS -- the emergent financial power bloc encompassing Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.

Bilateral and multilateral discussions among the five emerging economic powers aimed at decoupling BRICS economies from the US dollar as a reserve and trading currency have met with the only power Washington can muster on behalf of itself and its foundering allies -- military force. The problems between Ukraine and Russia over Crimea and federalism within Ukraine are a mask designed to cover Obama’s true intentions, which are the smashing of the BRICS as a viable alternative to the neo-colonialist financial systems of the West and subsuming the economies of the BRICS to the whims of the United States and the ever-teetering European Union.

The G-8, which suspended Russia from membership, and the World Trade Organization, of which Russia is now a member, never had a thing to do with free trade and common economic policies. These contrivances, formed in the back rooms by the bankers of the Trilateral Commission and Bilderberg Group, were always about unipolar domination of the world by a single superpower. Since the end of World War II and the collapse of the once-dominant British Empire, that superpower has been the United States.

N. Korea releases list of U.S. ‘human rights abuses’: ‘The U.S. is a living hell’

Pyongyang, April 30 (KCNA) -- Shortly ago, the United States had a ceremony to mark the 50th anniversary of the institution of citizenship act in the presence of President Obama.

As the world's worst human rights abuser, it pretended to be a "model" in human rights performance. More ridiculous are Obama's remarks at the ceremony that as the president, he came to realize that it is hard to make progress in the American society and there are some discouraging points.

In fact, the remarks are little different from his admission of the serious human rights situation in the U.S.

Under the citizenship act, racialism is getting more severe in the U.S. The gaps between the minorities and the whites are very wide in the exercise of such rights to work and elect. The U.S. true colors as a kingdom of racial discrimination was fully revealed by last year's case that the Florida Court gave a verdict of not guilty to a white policeman who shot to death an innocent black boy.

N. Korea criticizes 'human rights racket' of USA

PYONGYANG, North Korea (AP) — A North Korean spokesman is blaming the United States and its allies for a "human rights racket" a day after the U.N. Security Council met to discuss a new report that accuses the reclusive communist regime of crimes against humanity.

The North's official Korean Central News Agency on Friday quoted a spokesman for the country's foreign ministry and accused the U.S. and allies of reaching an "extremely reckless phase" with Thursday's informal council meeting.

It was the first time the Security Council had met on the unprecedented U.N. commission of inquiry report, which recommends that the council refer its findings to the International Criminal Court.

The commission chair says most council members expressly said the matter should be referred. All members but Russia and top Pyongyang ally China attended.
