Video: 'Obama, take Martelly!' US Embassy-bound demo triggers fiery clashes - RT Ruptly

Protesters demanding U.S. President Barack Obama intervene and remove Haitian President Michel Martelly from office clashed with police in Port-au-Prince on Saturday. Protesters also called for the release of prisoners who they allege are being held for political reasons.

The protest began near the church of Saint-Jean Bosco in the La Saline area before demonstrators marched down Delmas Road in the direction of the U.S. Embassy, where police in riot gear prevented them from entering. Protesters set fire to a pickup truck, burned tyres and smashed vehicles, while police used tear gas against the demonstrators.

The protest comes a day after Martelly announced plans to form a presidential commission to help deal with unrest in the Caribbean nation. Haiti has not held elections since 2011, despite promises by Martelly to do so. Presidential elections are slated to take place in October 2015.
