Jennifer Abel place third in 3m prelims at 2014 Diving Winter National Championships

SASKATOON – Pamela Ware of Beloeil, Que., won her first senior Canadian title on Friday upsetting Olympic medallist Jennifer Abel of Laval, Que., on women’s three-metre at the 2014 Winter Senior National Championships in diving.

Ware was steady in the final earning 344.25 points never receiving a mark below 7.0 from the judges on her five dives in the final. Abel's day didn't go so smoothly as she trailed most of the competition passing third place finisher Hailey Casper of Calgary on her final dive for 338.25.

The result was even more a surprise for Ware since she fractured her foot six weeks ago which kept her off the boards for three weeks.

"It was a pretty emotional way to get that first Canadian title," said Ware. "I wasn’t even sure I was going to compete here. Despite some adjustments I was still able to make my dives. It was really hard for me to believe I won."

Casper, first in the prelims, was also solid but her list doesn’t yet match Ware and Abel's in difficulty. She finished at 336.00.
