Haiti President Martelly to meet Pope Francis at end of month

Haitian President Michel Martelly will meet the Pope in Rome François end of February on the occasion of the creation of the first cardinal of Haitian history, Chibly Mgr Langlois, announced Friday the Vatican diplomatic mission in Port-au-Prince.

"President Martelly will have a head-to-head with His Holiness the Pope," said the Apostolic Nunciature of Haiti in a statement.

Chibly Mgr Langlois will be inducted at an ordinary public consistory in the Basilica of St. Peter on February 22. Mr. Martelly attend the ceremonies with a group of fifty people from different regions of Haiti who will travel to the Vatican.

Pope Francis announced mid-January the creation at this consistory, sixteen cardinal electors (under 80 years), nine of which come from the South and five of his continent, Latin America. A total of 19 cardinals are created taking into account three cardinals over 80 years, who are not voters.
