Video: HAARP Earthquake Timeline 2008-2010 (Haiti, Norway, Chile and China)

A rough timeline of some of the main probable HAARP events in the last few months (China, Norway, Haiti and Chile). You have your own mind, make your own decisions and decide your own truth's. Its not for anyone else to convince you of anything. I make no claims in this video and am merely trying to provoke thought and ask questions.

ALL HAARP data was recorded directly from the HAARP Induction Magnetometer.

Caribbeans urged to write in ancestry on US census

MIAMI — Identify yourself as being of "Hispanic, Latino or Spanish origin" on the 2010 U.S. Census questionnaire, and you will get to be more specific about your ancestry, such as Mexican-American, Cuban or Puerto Rican.

But check the box for "black, African-American or Negro" and there will be no place to show whether you trace your identity to the African continent, a Caribbean island or a pre-Civil War plantation.

Some Caribbean-American leaders are urging their communities to write their nationalities on the line under "some other race" on the forms arriving in mailboxes next month, along with checking the racial categories they feel identify them best.

It's another step in the evolution of the Census, which has moved well beyond general categories like "black" and "white" to allow people to identify themselves as multi-racial, and, in some cases, by national origin.

The wording of the questions for race and ethnicity changes with almost every Census, making room for the people who say, "I don't see how I fit in exactly," Census Bureau director Robert Groves told reporters in December. "This will always keep changing in this country as it becomes more and more diverse."

In another push tied to the 2010 Census, advocates are urging indigenous immigrants from Mexico and Central America to write in groups such as Maya, Nahua or Mixtec so the Census Bureau can tally them for the first time.

The campaign in the multiethnic Caribbean community reflects a tendency, born from multiple waves of migration, to establish identity first by country, then by race.

"We are completely undercounted because there isn't an accurate way of self-identifying for people from the Caribbean," said Felicia Persaud, chairwoman of CaribID 2010, a New York-based campaign to get a category on the census form for Caribbean-Americans or West Indians.

About 2.4 percent of the U.S. population — more than 6.8 million people — identified on the 2000 Census as belonging to two or more races. A little less than 1 percent of the population — more than 1.8 million people — wrote in their West Indian ancestry.

And about 874,000 people — or 0.3 percent of the population — ticked boxes for Native Hawaiian and other Pacific Islanders that year. If those islanders could get their own categories on the form, Caribbean-American leaders say, why not their communities?

Their lobbying efforts led to a bill in Congress requiring a box to indicate Caribbean descent on the census form, but it did not pass.

"We've really pushed so we can tell our story in numbers the way the Latino community has done by getting the origin category on the form," Persaud said.

Accurate counts in the once-a-decade survey ensure recognition from the federal government and the fair allocation of resources to state and local governments, advocates say.

While most Caribbeans are expected to at least check the box for "black," lumping them together with all African-Americans means corporations and politicians won't see the political, economic and social issues specific to their immigrant communities, Persaud said. They also won't see the size of those communities or get a sense of the diversity of experiences among Afro-Caribbean groups.

Persaud plans to check the "some other race" category and write in her nationality, Guyanese. Her father is Asian Indian, and her mother is black and Asian Indian, but she doesn't feel those categories reflect her blended Caribbean identity.

"We've always been able to say we're a mix, and then you come to this country and you're not sure where you're fitting under, so I figured that we're 'other,'" Persaud said. "That's how everybody feels."

Jean-Robert LaFortune also said the categories don't feel quite right. As he has on previous census forms, the chairman of the Haitian American Grassroots Coalition in Miami will identify himself as black and as a Latino of Haitian ancestry, and he will write Haitian under "some other race."

Checking so many boxes doesn't mean he's confused. He considers identity in a regional sense: to him, Latino denotes anyone from a Latin American country. He said the Latin roots of French and Haiti's predominantly Roman Catholic religion bind his homeland to a community defined in the U.S. mostly by the Spanish language.

"As you can see, it will not be an easy task for the Haitian to fill properly the census form," LaFortune wrote in an e-mail.

The concept of identity can change over generations. LaFortune concedes that while some Haiti-born U.S. residents identify with Latinos, younger U.S.-born Haitians have grown up with a different understanding of what it means to be Latino.

A generation gap likely explains why 56,000 people wrote in "Negro" on the 2000 form, enough to prompt Census officials to include the word alongside "black" and "African-American" in 2010, said Florida-based Census spokeswoman Pam Bellis.

Efforts to push the federal government to recognize specific communities have grown since the 1960s, when residents began filling out the forms on their own, said Ann Morning, a sociology professor at New York University.

The Census Bureau first included the option "of Spanish heritage" in 1970, then added the term "Hispanic" a decade later. Before 2000, Native Hawaiians were counted as American Indians. That Census also was the first to offer the option of identifying with more than one race.

Now there's more recognition of diversity within the black community, Morning said.

"For so long, black meant a particular kind of ethnic identity — a native-born descendent of slaves who had been in the South generations ago," she said. "Now people are increasingly realizing there are other kinds of African descent."

Haiti: Aid Racket Increases Suffering

By Ashley Smith

It is more than a month since the January 12 earthquake that laid waste to Port-au-Prince, killing more than 200,000 people and thrusting millions of people into desperate conditions.

But according to the US government, Haitians have a lot to be thankful for. On February 12, the US Ambassador to Haiti Ken Merten boasted to the press: “In terms of humanitarian aid delivery ... frankly, it’s working really well, and I believe that this will be something that people will be able to look back on in the future as a model.”

Haitian adoptions slowed by bureaucracy

Thousands of children are languishing in earthquake shattered Haiti, as the government clamps down on families and organizations trying to provide them a better life.

Malachi, 2, will soon board a plane bound for his new home in Pennsylvania. He is one of six Haitian orphans who departed Port Au Prince earlier this week, days after Haitian police seized them on their way to the airport and sent them to a tent city, worried they were being kidnapped.

The development was a shock to Joshua Manges and his wife, who had been trying to adopt Malachi for nearly two years.

"Everything we've had, we've had in line for quite a while now, and for them to freak out and assume the worst... and then civilians caused almost a riot; to detain him and his escorts and stick them in a tent city in rural Port Au Prince, that was pretty scary for us, but God provides," he said. "God protects his children."

TV Evangelist Pat Robertson made some unusual observations about the Haiti earthquake on his CBN newscast Wednesday, calling the quake a possible blessing and saying the Haitian people are cursed.

"A massive earthquake has hit the coast of Chile, killing dozens of people, flattening buildings and triggering a tsunami.

The 8.8-magnitude quake, the country's largest in 25 years, shook the capital Santiago for a minute and half at 3:34am (6:34am GMT) today."

Tony Yayo says Bun B, Twista on next album, Sha Money XL to A&R

By Jake Paine

In late 2009, Haitian hip-hop artist Tony Yayo, along with Juelz Santana was instrumental in bringing together two of the bigger Hip Hop brands in G-Unit and The Diplomats. 50 Cent's right hand man dating back to the '90s explained to HipHopDX last week, how in that same year, he also stressed a union with one of the more respected underground Hip Hop emcees of his Queens burough, Cormega. The two made "Streets Keep Callin' Me," a video collaboration.

"With Cormega, I've always been a fan of his music," said Tony Yayo to DX "I feel like he was one of the guys that didn't get a fair deal [with Def Jam]. He got locked up, plus [The Firm situation] with Nas and all that; I always followed his career. One of my favorite records from him was 'Dead Man Walking,' 'Angel Dust' was another one for me. I always liked the beats he picked and street-edge he had. Then I followed the way he went the independent route. He was one of the first artists to really be successful going the independent route, and make money off of it." Besides artistic craft, he's a hometown favorite of the G-Unit rapper. "He's fire. He's definitely a Queens representative."

Yayo continued, on how the two reformed hustlers have parallels within the streets. "I remember meeting him a long time ago, through one of my partners in the hood. A lot of the people he has in the streets, I know too - like my friend Dead Eye, shouts to him. He's an artist from Far Rockaway; he's locked up right now. You know when an artist is really in the streets. I try to keep myself humble and grounded in the streets. I don't ever want to lose that."

Additionally, Tony Yayo revealed details on his forthcoming official sophomore solo album, due on a to-be-announced label this summer. Tony revealed, "I was talking to David Banner. He said, 'The best thing for you, Yayo, is to make tour music. That's where the money's at. Ain't too much in the record sales. I just want to make tour music and music being me, and music that's gonna get me ahead. I have a joint with Twista that I worked on; Sha Money [XL] co-A&R'd the project. I got a joint with Bun B. I'm just going in different directions, making records people don't think I can make. People are used to the street element from me, but you gotta remember 'So Seductive' and 'Pimpin'' are my biggest records." Although he'll be doing it without Interscope, Yayo says the blueprint remains the same. "It's all about makin' them big hit records. That's the direction I'm going for."

How to Fix Haiti’s Fixers

BY PAUL COLLIER
Aid groups in the earthquake-battered country are inefficient and unaccountable. Luckily, there’s a solution.

In the outpouring of generosity since Haiti's earthquake last month, donors, investors, and charities have all made big moves to help. Key countries pledged assistance at a January summit in Montreal. At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, which fortuitously convened the private sector just a few weeks after the quake, there was also a new seriousness toward unlocking economic opportunities. Even individuals -- nearly half of U.S. households -- have donated to the Haitian relief and reconstruction effort in unprecedented amounts.

Quake Destroyed Half Haiti's GDP, says Préval

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (R) and Haitian President Rene Preval survey the earthquake damage, during a helicopter flight over Port-au-Prince.

The earthquake that hit Haiti last month destroyed up to 50 per cent of the country's gross domestic product (GDP), according to Haitian President René Préval, who puts the death toll from the disaster at between 200,000 and 300,000 thousand people.

Clutching automatic assault rifles, truckloads of UN troops patrolled the streets of Haiti's shattered capital on the day after the earthquake hit last month, seemingly oblivious to the misery around them.

NGO Networks in Haiti Cause Problems for Local ISPs

While the communications networks that aid groups set up quickly following the earthquake in Haiti were surely critical to rescue efforts, the new networks have had some negative effects on the local ISP community.

Now, more than a month after the earthquake devastated the island nation, local ISPs (Internet service providers) in Haiti are starting to grumble about being left out of business opportunities and about how some of the temporary equipment -- using spectrum without proper authorization -- is interfering with their own expensive networks, causing a degradation of their services.

Me and Banks are dropping two albums in the summer independently, through a deal that 50 [Cent] is conjuring up for us. It feels good to know that I have no red tape put on anything…If I had to deal with Interscope, I'd have to deal with the label and they'd have to sign off. Now I can do what I want. Reconstruction plans for Haiti proliferate, but who decides which plan goes forward?

The Haitian people still do not have tents to live in or regular access to drinking water and food, but attentions have shifted to reconstruction.  There are now as many reconstruction plans as there are aid organizations. Everyone who has even had tangential exposure to Haiti has put forth an opinion on how it should be rebuilt. Bill Clinton has a plan and the funds to implement it developed by pre-eminent poverty experts, including Paul Farmer, Jeffrey Sachs and others.

Port-au-Prince, Haiti (CNN) -- We had not been in Port-au-Prince in a month, not since those horrible days following the earthquake when the city looked like wreckage.

The city seemed so upbeat when we arrived Saturday morning on one of the first flights in since commercial airlines resumed service. Musicians wearing Western Union T-shirts greeted us near the hanger that now passes as baggage claim. Next to our hotel, street vendors peddled souvenirs outside a tent city surrounding the presidential palace.

Video: American Red Cross must explain $175 million in unallocated Haiti donations

The matter of the unallocated $175 million in American Red Cross Haiti donations focused on earlier, finally received attention via the American Red Cross’ own blog, which this blogger happened to visit Tuesday. The post, written by Gloria Huang, reads as follows:

Recently, we’ve been seeing some confusion from readers and bloggers online about the allocation of funds for Haiti relief. We would like to clarify how our Haiti relief funds are being used and how we are planning for their allocation in the future.

In just over a month, the American Red Cross has already spent or allocated $80 million of the $276 million donated to meet the most urgent needs of Haiti’s earthquake survivors.

The $80 million allocated so far has gone towards immediate relief for Haitians – 69% for food and water, 20% for shelter, and 11% for health and family services. The remaining $196 million will be spent as the Red Cross continues to focus on finding communities and populations in need in Haiti in order to give them the things they can use to survive this difficult situation.

Every donated dollar will be spent on relief in Haiti; because of the generosity of our donors, people in Haiti will receive resources, support and training from the Red Cross that will help them recover and rebuild in the years ahead.

The error, then, is in the initial American Red Cross report, which still reads as follows:

Since the earthquake, the American Red Cross has raised approximately $255 million for the Haiti relief and recovery efforts. To date, it has spent or committed $80 million, with approximately 69 percent of the funds spent or committed for food and water; 20 percent for shelter; and 11 percent for health and family services. As the response progresses and recovery begins, the Red Cross will continue to support these priority areas and longer-term assistance initiatives.

The words “spent or committed $80 million” are what caught this blogger’s attention. Note that the report fails to mention $175 million or $196 million for that matter. It was done only after attention was brought to the problems in the American Red Cross report by me.

Since then I’ve received a number of interesting emails and phone calls. Look, of an estimated $644 million raised for Haiti relief, one company, the American Red Cross, is responsible for one-third of that. Someone told me that the real reason for the omission of the $175 million was that when a person donated online they had to specifically designate where their money was going; if they did not click “Haiti”, the donation went to the Red Cross’ International Response Fund. The caller claims the International Response Fund money does not go to Haiti.

This link is to the donations page – DONATE. Note that Haiti is one of several choices and it’s down the page. So the question is this: is the $175 million or now $196 million really donations just taken in, and only $80 million was captured because some donors clicked on the “Haiti” tag? And why doesn’t the American Red Cross have a specific webpage and link button just for Haiti?

To this eye, it seems that the ARC is trying to use the Haiti issue to increase all of its donor coffers, not just that for Haiti.

So this matter’s still open and is getting even more interesting. What’s really funny is that because some disagree with these posts, and may be paid by the American Red Cross to respond to them via comments on the blog, they reach for the “wouldn’t a journalist…” blast. That always happens when they don’t agree. I remind them that I’m a blogger, far beyond a journalist. Bloggers have to mention their biases and can’t hide behind the statements of false “experts”. Bloggers – video or text – make it happen. Bloggers – especially video-bloggers – rock.

Bible, Hymn Books Replace Carnival Masks in Jacmel, Haiti

By JESSICA LEEDER, Toronto Globe and Mail

JACMEL, Haiti - Waving their arms in the air, marching in sync and singing in chorus, hundreds of revellers flooded the dusty, rubble-strewn streets of downtown Jacmel during the last hours of afternoon sun.

Instead of the papier-mache carnival masks that normally characterize February street gatherings in Jacmel though, this crowd was laden with Bibles and hymn books, dressed in their Sunday best. With their polished shoes and flowery dresses, several hundred people gathered in front of the crumbling and vacant Eglise Baptiste Strict de Jacmel and waited until their group was so large it flooded the tiny street.

Haitian officials barred six children bound for adoption in the U.S. from boarding a flight to Miami over the weekend, amid heightened fears of child trafficking.

A U.S. government official confirmed that the six children, who had been assigned to American adoptive families before the devastating Jan. 12 earthquake in Haiti, had all their paperwork in order, including travel permission from the Haitian prime minister. However, "the Haitian authorities didn't believe or trust the prime minister's signature was authentic," the U.S. official said.

Haiti Donations: New Rules for Getting a Tax Break in America

Donate to a charity helping Haiti earthquake victims before March 1, and the Internal Revenue Service has some relief for you.

Under a new law, you can actually write off a 2010 Haiti donation on your 2009 tax return if you itemize. (You can put the donation on your 2010 return next year if you prefer.) “This is quite unusual,” says Tom Ochsenschlager, vice president of taxation for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. “But there are a number of requirements to qualify for this break.”

Young Artists for Haiti recorded a revamped version of hip-hop artist K'Naan single titled 'Wavin' Flag'. Proceeds from the recording will benefit Free The Children, War Child Canada and World Vision.

More than 50 of Canada's brightest, emerging young stars gathered Thursday to record a song in an effort to help Haiti.

Renowned Canadian producer Bob Ezrin produced the song in Vancouver, which is set to be released in the next few weeks with proceeds going to Free The Children, War Child Canada and World Vision. Young Artists for Haiti recorded a revamped version of hip-hop artist K'Naan single titled 'Wavin' Flag'.

"With the wealth of young artists coming out of Canada, it was obvious that this is something we had to do," Ezrin said in a statement Thursday. "K'Naan's lyrics in 'Wavin' Flag' embody the pain, passion and determination of the Haitian people, and lend the hope of a brighter future. The response from the artists has been sensational, and I am so proud that, together, we may help to make a difference."

Outside Haitian Capital, Survivor Settlements Sprout

At the foot of rocky hills north of Haiti's earthquake-shattered capital Port-au-Prince, new settlements are sprouting as survivors flee the claustrophobic, rubble-clogged chaos of the stricken city.

BAS CANAAN, Haiti (Reuters) - Led by evangelical pastors, several thousand quake victims, some with little more than the clothes they stand in, have thrown up flimsy dwellings of wooden frames draped in cloth or plastic in plots marked out in the dry earth with machetes.

Magnitude 4.7 Quake Hits Haiti

Haiti was rattled this morning by a magnitude 4.7 earthquake.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake was centered about 20 miles of the devastated capital, Port-au-Prince.
It struck just after 4:30 in the morning local time at a depth of slightly more than six miles. Today's temblor comes just one day after Haitian President Rene Preval provided an updated death toll from the January 12th earthquake that rocked the Caribbean island nation.

University of Notre Dame offers free online course in Haitian language and culture

The University of Notre Dame is offering Professor Karen Richman's "Creole Language and Culture" class as a free online course. Dr. Richman recommends this course for anyone who is planning to participate in the ongoing disaster relief effort in Haiti or who works with Haitians in other countries. It is also recommended for those who want to know more about this country whose history is so closely tied with our own.

The course is designed to introduce people "to the vivid, sonorous language of Kreyòl, or Creole, and to the culture and history of its speakers." Dr. Richman assures potential students that this is a "beginning-level course... intended for students with no knowledge of Creole." It uses a "multilateral approach," including music and film as well as individual assignments, to enhance language acquisition. In addition, language study is augmented with segments that engage students in learning about Haitian history, culture and religion.

The objectives of this course are to:

  • Build elementary skills in listening, reading, writing, and speaking Creole.

  • Gain basic insights into Haitian history, society, culture, and religion.

  • Be able to converse at a basic level.

Dr. Richman serves as the Director of the Center for Migration and Border Studies for Notre Dame's Institute for Latino Studies. She lived in Haiti and she is one of the world's leading scholars on Haitian culture, religion, labor and language. Dr. Richman is the author of Migration and Vodou, a book that sheds light on the myths about vodou (or "voodoo") that have been used against Haitians for centuries. She won the 2009 Heizer award for the best article in the field of ethnohistory for her article, "Innocent Imitations? Mimesis and Alterity in Haitian Vodou Art." Her latest essay, "Run from the Earthquake, Fall into the Abyss: A Léogâne Paradox" can be found here.

About Dr. Edward Scobie

"There is substantial evidence in the pages of European history (ironically enough) of Africans in that area of the globe...who gained positions of respect and a kind of glory on their merits." - Edward Scobie

Dr. Edward Vivian Scobie was born in 1918 in the Commonwealth of Dominica, a former British colony. As a working journalist in London, Scobie became a correspondent for the Chicago Defender and for Ebony and Jet magazines. He contributed to many London newspapers, magazines and the wire services, and became a frequent broadcaster and scriptwriter for radio and television. From 1961 to 1963 he edited Flamingo, a monthly magazine published in London for African people in Britain, Africa and the Caribbean. Scobie was twice the Mayor of Rouseau, capital of Dominica, and vice-president of the Dominica Freedom Party.

Dr. Scobie was a major authority on the African presence in early Western Europe. He was the author of numerous scholarly articles and historical essays on the subject, including a series of five articles for the Journal of African Civilizations. One of these articles, "African Popes," discussed the lives of the three African pontiffs: St. Victor I (189-199), St. Miltiades (311-314) and St. Gelasius I (492-496). A second contribution was called "The Black in Western Europe." In "The Chevalier de Saint-Georges," Dr. Scobie documented the life of the remarkable composer, conductor, violinist, swordsman, equestrian and soldier of eighteenth century France. In "The Moors and Portugal's Global Expansion," Dr. Scobie noted that:

"Not only did the Moors in their European conquests leave their learning, their culture and their arts. Their blood, the blood of Africa, was to remain and flow in the veins of many a European, be he aristocrat or commoner. Finally, it is left now to investigate, in some detail, that culture which these Islamic sons of Africa left for the benefit of Europe, particularly Spain, and even more so, Portugal. It is this African cultural heritage which set in motion the expansion of Europe.

In "African Women in Early Europe" Dr. Scobie reflected on African women and the ethnic composition of Europe's royal families, pointing out that: "One of the well-known examples of a member of royalty with the blood of Africa coursing in her veins was Queen Charlotte Sophia, German-born consort of the English King George III (1769-1820)... These facts of history have never been given exposure in the writings of Europeans for obvious racist reasons."

Queen Charlotte Sophia was not only the wife of George III. She was the grandmother of Queen Victoria.

Edward Vivian Scobie was the author of Black Britannia: A History of Blacks in Britain published by Johnson Publishing House in Chicago in 1972. At the time of his death of acute myocardial infarction, on November 14, 1996, Edward Scobie was Professor Emeritus of History, Black Studies Department, City College of New York. Previously, Dr. Scobie taught at Princeton and Rutgers Universities. The comprehensive work, the African Presence in Early Europe, an anthology first published in New Brunswick, New Jersey by the Journal of African Civilizations in 1985, revised in 1993 and edited by Dr. Ivan Van Sertima, wad dedicated to Dr. Scobie "in recognition of his pioneering work, over many years, in this long neglected field." The Honorary Pallbearers at Dr. Scobie's mass were Dr. Jan Carew, Dr. Ivan Van Sertima, Dr. John Henrik Clarke, Bill Jones, Dr. Leonard Jeffries, Marcus Garvey Jr., Dr. Yosef A.A. ben-Jochannan and James Smalls.

ARTICLE:Aid to Haiti Will Fade

More than one million people were left homeless by the quake

The real mess in Haiti hasn't happened yet. Haiti has been a country without a functioning government for decades. The devastation of the earthquake has been exacerbated by the fact that there was no regulatory body overseeing the construction of buildings. As a result, homes, schools, hospitals and even government buildings were constructed without any concern for the quality of materials, workmanship or the safety of the occupants.
